    Whats it against?
If it's about Irish Ferries, just boycott Irish Ferries instead.
Such a day of Protest will actual reflect poorly on the Irish workforce.... potential investing companies will see an unsettled workforce and go elsewhere.
Stay in school / work and get a good days work done instead of wasting your time.

true, and what has this to do with teachers, any excuse to get out of work, yet again they are failing the children of this country, and getting highly paid too i might add

Apparently it seems to be the monkeys rallying for it, not the organ grinders...

National Committee of School Walkouts - what a bunch of 'tards...

I think the word 'protest' is the wrong word here. It's a day to show we are in solidarity with the Irish ferry workers and to show we wont stand down to the big fat cat buissness men who are all cosy with bertie and the boys and run highly profitiable companies such as Irish ferries. The poor latvian workers who are going to replace the Irish employees are probably going to be paid pittens for their hard days work on Irish ferries and so we are also against these workers being taken advantage of as they are cheap labour. Exploitation of workers should never be accepted and this is what Irish ferries shall be doing with these eastern europeans.
It's not a day off as you have been saying-it is a day where people who are passionate about workers rights can demonstrate this. They are giving up their day so that loyal workers in the future will not be treated to the same sort of treatment as the Irish ferry workers were shown.

How does this protest make any sense??? Boycotting Irish Ferries (as mentioned above, if that what its about) makes more sense and will hurt them more than 1 pointless day of protesting.

I don't use Ferries, but If I ever do I know it won't be Irish Ferries.

I believe the unions asked for it and the teachers voted it down. Exactly how have the teachers failed the children here?
I just looked at their website for the laugh and have to say i would not like to be a teacher on the money they get paid though. Give me private sector anyday :)

I think a boycott of Irish Ferries is the best option here, or for the dock workers not to service them.
But how long will a boycott last before its forgotten about? - a week?

No. The leader of the enterprise should make the decisions for the employees and labourers in all matters concerning the enterprise.

I dunno. Scotty was always telling him it was difficult to get his job done. The physics wouldn't bend to what he needed you see, so the working conditions were impossible.

Kirk was good, but his mirror universe counterpart had a better idea, any complaining and into the torture booth you go.

That'll sort those commie pinkos out!

This is a bit of a joke. What have secondary students got to do with Irish Ferries? I bet kids around the country are delighted becuase they will be getting a day off. I can guarantee they they couldnt care less about Irish Ferries and simply want a day off.

Protest for the sake of a protest really
