Only the same as I'd tell anyone driving any model of car - check the oil, water and keep the tyres at the right pressure. I've had very few, if any problems with the coupe.

    2.0 or 1.6??
Should be cheap enough to run.Theyre not bad on tyres/pads etc.Reliable as anything aswell.
Keep the oil changed regularly with a decent brand of 10w40.Magnatec is what we use in the workshop. We dont see that many of them other than servicing.

They are a really ugly car, that's all I can say about them.

    Old Model (96-2002)

    What's Good
If the Lantra is 'the curvy car', then this is 'the swoopy coupe'. The first incarnation was good looking and a lot of coupe for the money. 14' 3" long by 5' 8" wide and around 1,200kg. 112 bhp 1.6 the entry level at a reasonable £14,000. 137 bhp 2.0 litre a more serious car with standard alloys. Aircon optional on 1.6 and 2.0i; standard on 2.0iSE which also comes with leather seats. FI has big alloys and low-profile tyres. Will impress those who don't know what it is and is not a bad car in its own right. 130 mph plus. Handles nicely. Sells very well. Re-styled Y2k model has better sound-proofing and re-tuned, pleasant-sounding exhaust. Priced from £12,999 for the 1.6i. 19th from top of 100 models for reliability in Auto Express 2002 survey. Hyundais generally had below average warranty repair costs in 2003 Warranty Direct Reliability index (index 78.85 v/s lowest 31.93). 27th from top car out of 137 in 2003 Top Gear survey. Hyundai 3rd top top of Reliability Index for 2004 combining low average cost of repair of £315.78 with low 22.35 failures per 100 Warranty Direct policies. Link:- www.reliabilityindex.co.uk

    What's Bad
OTT launch advertising campaign compared the look of it to a Ferrari. Will not confer quite the same status on driver as a 3-Series, a Corrado, a Celica or even a Prelude. Year 2000 front-end restyle is not to everyone's taste.

    What to Watch Out For

Cars that are flash for not much cash can be prime candidates for the repo man, so used examples may be without service books and some of the keys, and definitely warrant an HPI check. Still young enough to want to see full dealer service history.

    New Model ( 2002 - )

    What's Good
All new, much better looking Hyundai Coupe replaced wart-fronted bobble-eyed 2000-2001 model. Choice of 1.6 or 2.0 litre fours and a 2.7 litre V6 with H-matic automatic or 6-speed manual gearbox. 1.6 down in power to 105bhp, 2.0 still has 137bhp, 2.7 V6 has 171bhp giving it a top speed of 136mph. Five-speed manual, six-speed manual or four-speed auto. In UK from Feb 2002 at prices from £14k to £20k. 1.6 delayed to Summer 2002. V6 version highly praised in 'Autocar' first drive. Dimensions are: length 4,395mm (14 ft 5in); width 1,760mm (5 ft 9in); height: 1,330mm (4ft 4in). Two engines available at launch in early 2002. 2.7 litre V6 develops 171bhp at 6,000rpm and 181 lb ft (245Nm) torque at 4,000 rpm. Zero to 60 takes 7.9 seconds and top speed is 136mph. Transmission options are either a six-speed manual or a four-speed H-tronic automatic. Tyres are 215/45 R17. Also 1,975cc four with 137bhp at 6,000rpm and 133lb ft (180Nm) torque at 4,500rpm. Zero to 60 takes 9.1 seconds and top speed is 126mph. Transmission options are 5-speed manual or four-speed H-tronic automatic. Tyres are 205/55 R16s. 1.6 is now down in power to 105bhp at 5,800rpm, while torque is 106 lb ft (144Nm). Zero to 60 takes 11.6 seconds and top speed 114mph. Only the 5-speed manual with the 1.6.
Standard kit on all models includes:- twin front and side airbags, ABS, electric windows and mirrors, seat belt pre-tensioners, front fog lamps, six speaker radio/CD player, air-conditioning, leather gearknob and steering wheel, alloy wheels and engine immobiliser. In addition, the 2.0 and 2.7 will have keyless entry and alarm, cruise control, leather seats and a sunroof. Will steal potential sales from Alfa 147, Alfa GTV, Peugeot 406 Coupe, Renault Megane Coupe, Toyota Celica, Vauxhall Astra Coupe, VW Beetle, VW Golf GTi. Old model 19th from top of 100 models for reliability in Auto Express 2002 survey. 5 year UNLIMITED MILEAGE manufacturer warranty from 1-9-2002.

    What's Bad
Doesn't go anywhere in the snob stakes except among people who don't know what it is and merely see it as a very good looking car.

    What to Watch Out For

    Too soon to say.
