Cheapest package for receiving RTE

    Hi,

I've recently seen the Sky adverts on RTE claiming that you can now 'mix 'n match' the stations you want to receive.

RTE used to be available with the Family Pack only. Am I right in assuming that Sky has scrapped the old package categories?

If so, does anyone know what is now the cheapest way to receive RTE (am abroad)?

    Thanks for your help.

    S.

    Hi Tony,

    Thanks for the quick reply.

Do you happen to know what this package is called and what other channels it contains?

    Thanks,

    S.

RTE is in the variety mix but you can add one other mix for 21.50, checkout sky.com for details http://www.sky.com/skycom/article/0,,91069-1130664,00.html

One thing to note with the new mixes it that Sky News is contained within the News & Events mix listing, but is available even if you don’t subscribe to that Mix - despite what Sky may try to tell you.

I downgraded from the 6 mixes to 4 by taking out Kids & News/Events and the guy on the phone was adamant that I would loose Sky News but I knew I wouldn’t so just told him to press the magic buttons. Smart-ass told me he would be speaking to me again later when I come back to put the news mix back in after loosing Sky News LOL.

Sky News would be no real loss anyway

Unless to far from a Terrestrial Transmitter I would NEVER sub to Sky specifically for the Irish channels. The cheapest pack here is a good TV aerial :)

Personally I think the Knowledge mix and Variety mix are best value.

Most of the Sky Pay TV news is free on other Satellites.
There is plenty of Pop Video Free on Sky and also other sats.
The Pay Kiddie programs will destroy their brains :-) CBBC, CITV, CBeebies, Tiny Pop and Pop all FTA.

The Lifestyle channels are a load of BBC repeats or cheap "coffee table book" programming.

    Just personal opinions.

But if you want all the Sport and / or all the movies then 6 mix packs is not much extra than 2.

If you want the basic selection of decent chs then two will do it.

The Sky site does several things:
They actually miss a couple of channels you get.
    They list Time shifted copies
They list free channels in their Pay mixes

I count 25 real different pay channels in Variety mix, + RTE1, RTE2, TV3 and TG4 which arn't pay TV but only Pay on Satellite

    I count 16 knowledge channels

    Watchable non-pay channels include
    ITV1,2,3,4 M&M, ITVnews
    BBC1NI, 1W, 1S, lots of England,2w, 2NI, 2E, 2S,3/Cbeebies, 4/Cbbc, News24, BBC Parliament,
Classic FM, B4, U, Vault, Chart, Fizz, Performance & Musicians
    Euronews, Sky News, CNN
    Pop, Tiny Pop
Bad Movies / Matinee Movies , True Movies, Travel Channel, Extreme Sport, Reality TV

For me it's hard to justify more than the 21.50

I get German MTV and lots of other Pop video on other Satellites, Terranova, Bloomberg, BBC World, Nile News, IBA, NewChannel TV, CNBC, DW TV, TV5 and 1400 more TV and 1200 more Radio just by adding a 100 Euro motor to a 90 Euro sat receiver.

I'd go along with you there but as reception of RTE in Belgium is not great I'm forced to take $ky sub!!! I remember with fondness watching TARA on 34.5 degrees west and with sadness when it rained heavily and the signal dropped out!!!

If RTE TV was FTA I'd drop $ky directly, happy I can save the 10 Euro's a month!!!

Maybe one day RTE TV will become FTA buts thats another story!!!

Me too. If RTÉ were to become FTA, I'd leave Sky like a shot.

I suppose I can live and dream...
