    Hi,

In people's experience when working aboard did employers check your references on your cv's?

Ive worked in both the US and Canada and generally they dont bother checking references its too much hassle for them to ring Ireland and work out the time difference, also theyve never heard of the shops we have over here so its that bit harder for them to ring Next/Dunnes/Roches and sound like they know what theyre talking about.

What we did one year was put down friends mobile numbers in Ireland and pre-warned them that they could get a call from a potential US employer and to give us glowing references...

    Hope that helps!:)

I worked in New Zealand and even with the 12 hour time difference they checked the references. They sent emails. I suppose it depends on the job - if you're stacking shelves or doing something easy they probably won't check but if you're doing a skilled job they probably will.
