    Hi all,

searched 100 pages on this forum on this without joy.

hoping to buy webcam soon. Budget not really an issue, but i will be sensible about it. Will be using for msn chat, I am running BB and windows XP.

Living in Cork, but no real probs with buying online.

    Thanks in advance.

The logitech webcam pro 4000 gives a good picture, has a mic on it (which can be used or not used), and is easy to install (just get the drivers from www.logitech.com first).

They're over €100 in the shops, but you can get them online for less than €50 usually (I got mine from overstock.com 18 months ago for $40).

And in fact, they've just released the 5000 here: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Webcams_63.html

I got a Toucam Pro II in PC World recently for €60. I don't use it for online stuff (I use it for astro-photography) but it's supposed to be quite good for your purposes.

I have the one that Esat BT used to give you free with their BB+ package. Pretty decent for free. Pic quality is good, microphone is absolute rubbish though. I'd say it'd be about 25 euro for a similar calibre one in a shop ?

My free one from Esat never worked, the drivers never installed properly. :(

Maybe I should try it again someday after a clean XP install.

BopNiblets, I managed to track down an updated driver for it from some incredibly obscure website. I'll send it to you tomorrow if you want, when my nice 3meg/300k NTL gets put in.

XP always had some problem with "usbaudio.sys" for me before I found the driver off the net.

Interested? It's actually a decent camera if you don't use the mic.
