Signs, Signals & Hidden Meaning

I was recently debating with a friend whether "shoes over powerlines" actually meant drugs were availaale neary or whether it was nothing more than an urban legend.

Does anyone else know of anything else like this? Things that seem commonplace but have a hidden or underworld meaning?

The only thing that springs to my mind is spme graffitti tags signify a nearby drop point for drugs/money/etc. Not sure if it's utter tripe or not but the whole idea of this intrigues me.

Good thread, but I cannot divulge the nature of the hidden signs, unless you have your left trouserleg rolled up? ;)

It's kind of like those blokes who put different coloured pieces of cloth sticking out of their back pocket. The colours represent what they will do with you...

    ...

Not sure if this is what you're looking for!!!

While not exactly what I was looking for that is quite.... shall we say, interesting?

Jaysus Kernel if I see one more person with their trouser leg rolled up so help me! As a brief aside I've heard it's associated with a gang of young thieves in New York, true?

Maybe young hoodlums in the States use that, like gang colours (red = Bloods, blue = Crips), but I was talking more about the masonic rituals of rolling up the trouser leg. ;)

    EDIT:

Also, according to an Italian friend of mine, the blackstone ring (of which I have been known to wear) usually implies your are part of the cosa nostra or mafia of Sicily! :)

Ahh yes, unfortunately for for revealing our secret you must now endure the sacred atonement of ritual paddling.

Heard about the mafia ring before, must travel to Sicily sporting one and see what free merchandise I can mooch.

I also found this http://www.shoefiti.com/index.php apparently in NY the shoe thing means a death.

I'm going to put up a pair on the lines outside my neighbour's house as soon as I get home.

apparrently the colour of some of the badges that some biker gangs have (possibly devil decipels) denote different thing they have done
red meaning going down on a girl during her period etc
