    From some Sunday Rag:

Real line up sensational Benitez move Sun, Dec 04 2005 13:45
Real Madrid are lining up a sensational swoop for Reds boss Rafael Benitez as Wanderley Luxemburgo's reign is set to come to an end.
The Bernabeu coach has been under immense pressure as Madrid have found themselves off the pace in the race for the title. Fierce rivals and defending champions Barcelona are currently leading the way in La Liga and Real are ready to act.
It is believed the board at Real have made their decision to axe Luxemburgo and have targeted Benitez as the ideal man to takeover the reigns and bring the glory days back to the club.

At least we know Rafa's intelligent enough not to take over a club that sacked their manager after two Ligas and two Euro cups.

    Isn't he?

Arsene, Jose, Fabio or Rafa, they usually get who they want in the end.

I betting on Jose, all the money in the world cant make Chelsea a "great" club and to be the best manager ever you have to manager the best "club".

Not a chance IMO, they'd never settle for Drogba up front and a decent defence...:D

Capello looks content in Turin, he's building a fantastic team at Juve, I'd be surprised if he left.

I suppose Sacchi will take over as caretaker. Maybe he'll want it permanently.

EDIT: Ah, reserve coach took over.

Give it time and Roy Keane will be linked in a player-manager capacity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

Well, he couldnt do any worse than the previous dozen managers they've had!

Vicente Del Bosque was rather successful at Real Madrid.

Cann't see any of the big names(Arsene, Jose, Fabio etc) running at the chance to go to Madrid. Bit of a "poison chalice" Imo.

tough job to take bcause you have to produce from the very beginning. what about harry Redknapp?:p

It'll probably be Hitzfeld, following the clown procession of managers at Real has to be more tempting than trying to replace Fergie

Perez is the one that should step down.

Hard to see any Premier League manager going there, Rafa would probably be on their hit list but I can't see him leaving given the current form of Liverpool and I'm sure he wants to try and retain the Champions League.

Does this make Wanderly Luxemburgo the new favourite for the Ireland job ?????????

    I'm off to the bookies.

Bring back Kerr before I would allow him into the job. Has been brutal at Madrid even with all the money he had and they actual bought a defensive midfielder and a defender. Not sure why everyone says Bene or so on wouldnt take the job. Even with all the stuff that goes on Real is one of the best jobs in the World and alot of managers would love the chance to manage them.

I thought it was Perez that bought all of the players...

Yeah but if they turn out to be bad buys he can just blame the manager and get rid of him, the joys of having a scapegoat.

Rafa : He might go, he might not.
I dont know if he is the type of guy who would leave a club mid year, seems a bit more loyal than that. I however expect him to be the manager of Real Madrid at some point in his life

    Wenger:

Arsenal are in a slump atm.
Henry looks like he wants to leave, although might yet still join.
They don't seem to be able to invest enough, but money has been promised for the winter.
If he left now, he might lose his legacy, which i'm sure he would love.

    Hitzfield:
Would he take up the job? He is utterly no nonsense in total control. That said so are Rafa and Wenger.
They would have to have enough faith in themselves to win and inturn gain control.
He is also defensivly minded, and might not exactly be welcome.

    Le Guen:
He has a huge rep atm, does he want to risk it? I don't think he has any personal goals for it.
Also he would be in line to take over any of the jobs left by say Wenger or Rafa or whoever left for Real, which me might prefer.

The best thing that could happen to Real, is for a big manager to be asked, and to say,

'I won;t work under Perez, he is ruining your club'
And then they might get some change.
Until then, who the **** knows, its Real, nobody can guess

does perez not have to be voted out like what happens at barca? im not too sure on this so dont attack me if im wrong. I always thought that clubs in spain voted in their presidents who then had a period in power

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,503 ✭✭✭Makaveli

Yeah he does, but still manages to keep his position.
Maybe another tropheyless year will change things.
Real Madrid are a great club so it's a bit sad the way things are run there, but on the other hand I hate them so the more they upset things by sacking managers the happier I am.

Yeah there is an election Last one was after Euro Championships....Bloke who was up against him said if voted in he would sign Baros from Liverpool. Perez was voted in with over 90% of the vote. Seems the fans in Madrid think he is the proper man for the job

Cann't see Jose, Wegner, Benitez or Copello touching the position with a 10ft pool to be honest. The amount of politics involved within that club are mad. Honestly who would want the job? I'd say it's like working for the circus.

If any of the above mentioned names went to Madrid, there would probably be a clearout of alot of the players.

Also, they are the type of managers who would demand (and get it written in any contract), that the president could not interfere with their plans.

Depending on how desperate he is, Perez may or may not go that route. No doubt he'll go for another puppet.
