"John Who?". John Martyn. He's a living legend. Just started listening to him again. There is no comparison. Solid Air. One World. What masterpieces! He played twice here this year but missed him due to money and time. Should have gone!

    Anyone else into him?

I saw him in Vicar St. in May and it was short and sublime. I almost remember Solid Air when it came out (I first heard it in 1976 or so) and most of the songs stand up very well after more than 30 years. It is a gem. He also made some good albums more recently. Two I have are The Apprentice and Cooltide, both of which have some beautiful songs. He is living in Kilkenny apparently.
He is a kind of George Best of singing.

He is quite hard too explain. Musically speaking. Think jazz, blues, acoustic folk and psychedelia and you almost there. Check him out for sure.

He played in the Séamus Ennis Centre (seamusenniscentre.com) about two weeks ago. I might have gone if I had known who he was :9

I bought One World a few years back, hadn't heard any of his stuff but it was definitely worth the risk, absolutely great album!

the only problem with mr martyn is the ****e he made in the 80s with phil collins.

I think he did some stuff with Hall & Oats but I've never listened to it. If the stuff done with Phil Collins sounds anything like the synth on "Coming in on time" then I fully understand!

Even some of that was good. JM was a magician; he could hide musical gems behind glitz. Sweet Little Mystery (from that era) is a beautiful song (and JM's voice works wonders on it).

His island albums are currently being reissued with bonus tracks for anyone who hasn't noticed.

A while ago I was in Tower Records and I was delightfully surprised to see Solid Air behind the desk #1 on the charts. Bought it for a tenner as soon as I seen it.
It was a remake too. A nice paper sleeve and biography inside. Great buy.
