Car alarms and my head

A friend told me a while ago that if you put the remote that controls your car alarm to your head, it works over a longer distance. I had heard this before and was just wondering is there any truth to it.

Also, about 10 minutes ago I went to the car to get something. The remote is on very low battery and couldn't turn off the alarm. I put it to my head and it worked instantly. I tried it the normal way agin to turn the alarm back on and it didn;t work. But when I put it to my head....BINGO!

What's the story here? Can your head amplify the remote (or something)?

    I don't thinks so .....

Unless your head is acting as a reflector or antenna.

    Furthere evidence,

I went to work this morning after posting this and told the lads in the car about the alarm. We got out of the car and walked away from it, constantly turning the alarm on/off until we got to the distance where it is out of range (20m approx). We then stepped back, tried it out and it didn;t work. My friend put the remote to his head and it worked. Only another metre or so. I think I saw it on Top Gear some time ago but I could be wrong on that.

Anyone else like to try the little experiment and see fi you get the same results?

I presume your body is actin much like an aerial boosting signal....I know when I'm in underground car parks my remote will work from a huge distance as the signal is bouncing off the ceiling and back to the ground over n over

Doesn't an aerial have to be metal? Or a good conductor of sorts? Electrons oscillating with amplititudes comparable to that of the radio wave and all that?

The underground car park thing makes a lot of sense but I have no explanation about this whole head thing.

Edit: Unless... it's using your nervous system as an aerial.. Is that possible!? Must ask a neuroscientist.

Natural Selection at work perhaps? :p

Tbh, if it works I'd be worried about using one's head as an antenna...

I think it a simply because the body acts as an antenae to the remote. The same thing happens with a radio. When the arial of a radio that is struggling to recieve is touched it will play better. To test is quite easy, tune a radio to a weak station and push the arial back in. If the radio is then playing badly it will improve if you touch the arial.
