I think it depends on the school a lot. If your school puts a lot in TY appreciates that it's not just another school year, it's good. You should ask some of the people in your school who have done it, did they find it worthwhile. Ask about what activities you do in TY.

It also depends on you yourself.

Really, as we keep being told, you get as much out of TY as you put in, if you sign up for lots of things, get involved, do the work you're set, it will really benefit you. If, however, you're a lazy bum, the year will be a doss, but you'll forget everything you've learnt, be bored and forget how to study.

    It's up to you!

Exactly. It really does depend on the school. Try asking some of the present TYs or last year's ones and ask them what they thought of it.

Look, dazzler, YOU'RE NOT EVEN IN TY! SO STOP POSTING NEGATIVE COMMENTS!

I swear to God if you reply to this and say something along the lines of "my opinion is as valid as everyone else is..." I'll have to ban myself if I go on. Fill in the blanks. If you feel up to it.

I did Transition year (ever so long ago!) and I do feel it was really beneficial.
I came out of Junior cert tired and bored. I hated school, I'd barely studied, and definitely didn't get the marks I could've. There was no way I was mature enough to go anywhere near fifth year, and that workload.
So I did TY, and yes, I dossed like a mad yoke. I got involved in a few things, but mostly used it as a year out. It was the best thing I'd ever done.
I came out of it bored of doing nothing! I was ready to work. I was mature enough to study to get what I wanted.
I'd finally realised that I wasn't in school for anyone, except myself. As boring as classes were, they were a means to an end - my ticket to college, and a job I loved.
Other people have other experiences, but I believe mine saved my school career.

really depends on the school. I got too laid back and lazy going into 5th year. It was a good doss and went on a few good trips to Delphi and . . . . well that was really the best one but still. Talk to couple of the Ty's in your school already or maybe the principle or TY co-ordinator

TY was great craic, the modules were really good, and it helped me in deciding what I wanted to go on and study in 5th year and in college

    TY ftw is not textspeak.
    They're acronyms.
    TY stands for Transition Year.
ftw stands for for the win.
There's a wiki article on this lingo.

ty was the best year ever! we went loads of places including barcelcona!!! and you just get to try loads of new things and you can really see the difference of ppl who done ty and then the others in my class! were alot more mature! its just the most fun in skool! doesnt even feel like skool! so do it!

When I was in TY I loved it and I didnt think it was doss. It really helps you to mature. You may not realise but you pick up a wide variety of skills. I learned how to type ( i mean like really fast), did ECDL, model united nations, went to Paris, did yoga, salsa dancing, health care, childcare loads of stuff! It is really benefical especially to your C.V! Go for it, what do you have to lose? - nothing! what you have to gain - everything! the only negative the whole of 5th year I forgot how to work! oops!

Do it, best year ever. You don't want to be stuck right into the leaving as soon as you get back. It's great.

TY is a great break between 3rd year and 5th but I'm f**ked when i go into 5th year. My 4th year has been so lazy, and for the record its not just me its the whole class.

We go on good trips and to interesting lectures, workshops but when it comes to actual schoolwork we do nothing at all. If it wasnt for Boards I'd probably go mad in computers :)

Also dont forget about all the people who are in LC now looking at their friends moving on in college, making new friends and living it up.

Depends on what school your in, personally I wish I'd skipped it, because then now I'd be in college instead of bummy sixth year on the way to my leaving cert... ugh.
