I want to get a really good tripod - my budget is €200.

Where should I look? and anyone got any specific recomendations?

That's a pretty decent budget, I'd recommend you go into Conns or some other photography store, and try out a couple of different brands/models, see what suits your style of photography and what functions you like dislike, then check the net for the same one as you might get it for cheaper than the shop, if not go back and buy it. That's what I'd do anyways. Hope that helps a bit.

Wow, what a ****ing budget for a tripod.

I got mine for 60 and it is ****ing brilliant like, extends just about 1/3 of a foot above my head and is well sturdy.

Look for one with independant legs (i.e. they can be set at different angles and lengths)
You can buy the head seperately, a ball head is supposed to be the best. You should be able to get a very decent tripod for less than €200

There are 3 factors to consider when buying a tripod: stability, cost, and weight. Any two of those are fairly easy to satisfy, but making all 3 converge is tough! Whatever you buy, make sure it's not too heavy that you'll end up leaving it behind.

All that said, Manfrotto are excellent. Have a look at the 190, which you'll need to buy a separate head for.

If you're feeling a bit more adventurous check out http://www.feisol.com. Their tripods are made from super light carbon fibre, are comparable to (and much cheaper than) Gitzo, and have been getting rave reviews on the net, though by the time you add shipping, a head, and Imaybe) duty, it'll exceed your budget a bit.
