A Night Like No Other.....

I played for the first time in a Casino on Westmoreland St, small little place, only one table for the night. I got in there around 8pm, and stayed until just before 1. There was around 6-7 people at the table for most of the night, a couple of Irish guys, 3 or 4 Turkish gentlemen and a couple of Chinese men.

I bought in for 60 euro, blinds 1/2, pot limit, and one of the Turkish men, sitting to my right, was raising every pot, every hand, and with no cards coming my way, I quickly lost a third of my stack within 45mins. I was debating going home when AJ suited finally came to me. As usual, my Turkish friend raised the pot, and after thinking I reraised the pot. Everyone else folded, realising I was actrually playing a hand, but the Turkish man called. flop KJ6 rainbow. He checks, I push all in, he folds.

So I'm back to my starting stack and feeling a little better, when about five hands later, I look down at AA. Hehehe.... I'm on the button, so with the usual callers and the pot raise from my buddy, I once again reraise the pot. Once again, everyone folds, except for the Turkish guy. I can't even remember the flop, but with no A and a rainbow, I bet the pot which has me almost all-in. He calls, and on the turn I'm all-in. He calls and my AA holds up for a double-up pot.

The table is amazed to see the AA, but for the next 20 mins, I once again don't even see a flop, with the raises on each hand from the Turk. Another Turkish man joins the table, and I look down, once again on the button to find AA. It's almost 10pm and I'm not really sure this is right so I double check and sure enough, there are the two black peaks of the A's looking up at me. I can't help but smile.

Needless to say the Turk raises the pot, and knowing he'll call, I reraise the pot. To my amazement, the new Turk at the table calls aswell, which worries me a little. My stack before this hand was around the 120 mark, and with another rag flop, I push all in for the remainder 80 or so in chips that I have. Now having seen me show AA before, I'm not expecting a caller. Both do.

My rockets hold up and when I turn them over, there is a mixture of surprise, anger and disbelief at the table. Some of disbelief is my own, I don't know what the odds are but they must be high.

So the table once again settles down, we have a dealer change, and I go back to my serial folding. Sure why not just wait for the AA's every time!!

While I was thinking this, jokingly, within half an hour, I had in my hand the rockets again (at this stage of the story, I'd like to point out that if anyone doesn't believe me, I'm not surprised and I certainly can't blame you. I didn't have anyone with me to back up the story, I'm only a new poster on boards, but I really wanted to share this with other people who might appreciate it. I get AA online all the time, as I'm sure do most of you reading this, but more often than not, they fail to hold up. It was so strange to be in a position where they were actually worth something!)

Now nobody gets AA 3 times in one evening, so when I pot raised once again, the two Turks both smelt revenge, as did the sole other Irish player at the table. This time I was the SB, and when the flop came KKx, I thought that my luck had finally run out. I checked, but couldn't beleive it when the threre oter players also checked. The turn brought a J, and I bet 50, everyone called.

I was afraid of some slow playing a K, so I checked the river, and sure enough, the Turkish power raiser bet 50euro in last position. I called, the other two folded and I was amazed to find the AA was once again good enough. However, the reaction from the table was again a mixture of disbelief and suspicion. This was my third AA, in one night, at one table. What are the odds?

I seriously considered leaving at this stage, I mean it could get any better, could it?

Of course it could!! Less than an hour later I looked down at AA for the fourth time in one night. Without boring you with flops and turns, they once again held up after I strong played them from the start.

Before the end of the night I also hit KK and QQ which both helped to win nice pots.

I left having increased my stack 6 fold, knowing that I will probably never see cards like that again.

But for one night, it was a really nice feeling.

    Cheers Dave,

Yeah, I really doubt I'll see a night like it again. Just a shame I didn't get it on film!!

Dont think iv ever had AA 4 times in such a short time, but iv def had AA twice and KK twice in relatively short periods. It happens from time to time, such is poker.

What is surprising is that they held up 4 times in a row.....now thats something ;)

Nice work. Seems like it was a good night for a few of us!
(As he waits for the "Man, I got crippled last night! Couldnt catch a card all night!" posts) :D

    Tell me about it!!

I play daily online, and like any other person on here, I can't remember how many times they've been cracked.

And in pot limit, it becomes even harder, because you can't push all in to scare limpers away. Some of the guys at the table had 600+ in front of them, so even when I called pot, 35 or 40 euros wasn't really scaring them.

What did scare them was the AA appearing every time...:D :D:D

I got it twice in pretty quick succession in a home game. I even told them the second time and they still paid me off :)

The probability of getting aces is exactly the same every hand you play.

Yeah but the probability of getting them consecutively or a number of times in a given session is alot less.

I've had aces 6,435 times and counting, never been cracked. Love that variance.

Only my second time playing live and was dealt AA twice in a sit 'n' go in the Merrion last Monday (although one guy claims I got them 3 times). Also got Kings, sixes, fours, and threes (Yeah, I played them :o ) and finally AK to take it down. Aces held up both times, Kings held up and busted a guy who, after I called his all-in raise, said "just don't show me Kings", sixes won pre-flop, can't remember the fours and the threes were beaten by a river 10. Only had all the chips in twice. Once with the AK (although I had him well covered) and one other time with AJs to isolate the all-in shortstack. Luckily I got a caller whose QJ (I think) didn't catch anything as the ss had a pair of Kings, so my loss was nicely recovered. It's a real easy game when you get the cards, and I found it amazing to hear the phrase "How much have you got there?" coming out of my mouth. :)

    Honest?

Lafortezza's results with the As seem surreal alright. I wonder what I'm doing wrong to get them cracked in what seems like every second hand?
On the frequency of the As point, I once saw a guy get As three times in a row followed by AK suited twice. The 5 hands were in a cash game and all held up for fairly large pots netting the guy over 800. A nice run that I've yet to see.

Lafortezza is obviously folding them. I reckon you need to learn from the master and do the same.

My best is AA x 4 in one night in the Fitz. In one of these another player had AA.

One night Chris Green has AA two hands in a row.

In a nine player $50 Sit & Go in Las Vegas (two $250 tickets) one player got AA four times. He busted six players. I busted the last one for a very distant second place.

And I busted them both times. First time I had gone all in shortstacked first with 44 and hit a four flush, second time I was BB and she slow played and I hit 2 pair on the flop with 52o or something.

I got AA twice in a row once, hit quads on the flop first time, trips the second. didn't get paid off much but quite amazing.

Another time I got them 3 times in one round of the table to rescue me in a tournament, and they held up every time amazingly. Not so since.

about a month ago i nearly quit the whole poker thing after the following happened... the setting, a home game, in my kitchen... 6 or 7 players... i get AA, play it the usual way, lose to trip 8's or something, nexthand, AA again, this time i slow play them (my own mistake!! i know!) anyway, they dont hold up... so im down a fair bit, was chip leader before those 2 but anyway... i battle it back... i look down at 72, for the laugh i play it, no flop and i fold... next hand.. 72 again... i think i'll hit something, and raise this one... again it loses.. it usually does... so next hand, when i see 72 again im think, yea, this is the one and i call a riase to see a flop... nothing.... by the way this all really did happen!!... so then... when i look down at 72 AGAIN i think, get away from this and stop playing it!! needless to say you can all guess the flop was 772.... i never went on such bad tilt in my life after that and was bust out about 5 mins later..... easily the worst poker ive played in months!! ah well!

That was silly. If you are lucky enough to get a good hand directly after losing a big pot you've got to pretend you are on tilt. You'll get paid off most of the time. It's one of those situations in poker that is immensely satisfying.

Best sequence of hands I managed to get was in a cash game with all 4 of them holding up. In 4 hands I got AA, QQ, AA (again), KK both the Q's and K's hit a set on the turn after an A had appeared on the flop - big pay offs.
Anyone notice how hands seem to stick to you? In cash games I get KK at least 3 times a night - rarely does anyone bust them on me either. It's my big money hand - does this happen anyone else?

trust me, i know now... learnt alot that night... unfortunately i was unable to pretend that i was on tilt because i was so very convincingly on tilt!!!
