I have recently replaced my 5 year old Dell Dimension XPS with A Dell Dimension 5150. My problem lies with the connections on the back. I have a Saitek joystick which has a 15 pin connector, and a dongle for using a software package for work, which has a 25 pin connector. Both connectors are the type that have two small screws to hold them in place. My new pc dosn't take these so I'm left using the old pc for some applications. Is there any way round this?

From the sound of it your new PC is missing a serial and parallel port.

TBH, not sure what you can do. Are parallel port to USB adapters available? And even if they are would the dongle function properly?

I say you might have to buy a new joystick nad contact the software manufactuer for a more up to date authenication methd instead of dongle.

Maplins do a few adaptors that might do what you want
    USB to Parallel Adaptor
    USB to Parallel Cable
    USB to Serial & Parallel

The dongle is a parallel port one, what program is it for ?
Because you will need to check their web site to see if it is compatible with XP as it restricts access to the Hardware more than other OS's.

TBH, unless it's a high end joystick have look at a USB joystick - it might be cheaper than the adaptor, ( and you could sell the other one to make up the difference )

Look at www.marxcomputers.ie for USB to serial were €25 last time I looked.

The 15 pin port is probably one of the game ports that they used to put in sound cards and mobos, completely obsolete now, pick up a USB joystick methinks.
