Should get someone who has some credibilty with the young and present players & coaches, instead of some old fart in a pinstripe suit.

    DJ Carey would be perfect.

Didnt see the debate - but I thought I heard on the radio that Sean Kelly is going to get it. Is that not true?

Would be ridiculous to give it to a Kerryman given how much neglect their county board give to hurling (a county board that Kelly was presumably a part of for a long number of years).

Nicky English was the first name that jumped into my head as an ideal candidate, but the Deej would be good too. The likes of Liam Griffin and Ger Loughnane have a huge passion for the sport and might also be good.

Of course none of the above might qualify as the "YesMan" that the GAA will undoubtedly go for.

Yes it is true apparently! I think the problem with filling the position is that it is full time, all of the people that you have mentioned would be great but already have other careers, which they wold have to give up for a position, that may not work out for them or may not turn out to be permanent!

Perhaps an idea would be to look at somebody from outside the sport with experience in promotion or management in some other sport!

Now I hear that he wants to try and get elected to the next Dáil. if he is this cofused about his future plans he should steer well away from the Hurling post. The person for this jog needs to know exactly what they see themselves diong for the next 2/3 years. This doesn't sound like kelly.

Doubt DJ would take it, he's making too much money from flogging jacks roll and PAs.

Sean Kelly is the man for the job

Read an article (i think in the Tribune, but could have been Friday or Saturday's Irish Times) that if they the profile of Hurling is to be raised, it would take a Footballing man to do so.
Maybe Kelly's appointment is no bad thing, he may be the best man to drive the sport forward.

Kelly took up hurling at the age of 22, so he's not just a football man

Hurling in Kerry is strong enough

I think any person going into a job like that would need to know all the politics involved.

A lot of the problem stems from the fact that many County Hurling Boards are merely sub committees of the 'de facto' football board so are always playing second fiddle to the football

I feel kelly would be a good appointment then as he is a string minded individul who will fight his corner vehemntly
