Hi, im heading over to the states in the next few days and Im wondering if its possible to buy a mobile over there for much cheaper than here?

    If so...

    - Know any good offers or shops?
    - Will the phone work back over here?

    Thanks

What part of US you going to?
Main thing to watch if you pick up a phone there is that it is:
    a. GSM and not CDMA
    b. Has 900/1800 frequency bands for operation back here

To be honest, generally speaking theres not great deals there, but you never know. You might get lucky, but they tend to be fairly behind compared to here with the whole mobile phone scene

Dont know anywhere in Pennsylvania I'm afraid

Almost a politically incorrect thing to say these days, but phones are cheaper here (at least there were last year when I tried buying one, even sim cards were crazy...)

GSM is limited only to a few networks (T-Mobile, Cingular, and Virgin I think), and yes, they are a good bit behind us, and even further behind the asians.
