Story is: Bike covered, sheltering from the rain and cold. Wind got really strong, got under cover and blew bike over. Put dent in the side of petrol tank, aaarrrggghhh. Can it be fixed? Will it cost a bomb? Ah crap. Help.

It very much depends on where exactly the dent is, and yes, it can be pretty costly. In some cases, the dent can be literally blown out (seal up all the holes and attach an airpump, et voila!). Anything beyond that, and the price increases exponentially. I was on the verge of having a dent repaired, at relatively large expense, a coupla years ago, but the bike was conveniently nicked. What to do, what to do?!??? Should I thank the little Dick Turpin wannabes for sparing me the expense, or hunt them down and boil them in acid like the steenking dogs that they are? What a quandary!

Brother fixed a dent in his one by removing the tank and it's contents of petrol. Turned off the fuel tap and poured boiling water....about a full kettles worth into the tank and closed it up. A few seconds later the dent popped out fine. He was careful to open the tank straight away. Flushed it with a gallon of petrol. I guess the pressure popped the dent out for him in his case.
