Best way to Antrim town from Dublin?

Any advice on getting to Antrim Town from Dublin folks? I have to head up there on monday or tuesday morning/afternoon and I see from the map that I have 3 choices really; A1-M1-Westlink-M2-Antrim or A1-Turn off at Banbridge, head to Lurgan and onto A26 past Aldergrove to Antrim town or A1-M1 west to join A26 and head north similar to above. Any input as to the best way? Traffic obviously being a prime concern!

Ok, haven't been to Antrim in years, but I've been as far as the airport recently. Your third choice is the most direct route, all the way up the M1 in the Republic, Newry by-pass, take A1 all the way to the M1 in the north, then head for the Moira turnoff and go up the A26 all the way into Antrim.

You should only start hitting heavy traffic as you get into Antrim town, I hear it's chronic there.

    Good luck,
    B.

Its not marching season, so the back roads should be safe.

Avoid the M1 in the rush hour - there are roadworks, I think between J2 & J3.

Outside rush hour I suspect the A12 is quickest / least likely to get you lost.

A current snag with any routing that takes you on the A1 between Newry and Banbridge is the roadworks that can really slow you down. Last Thursday (admittedly that was the day the snow fell) I saved 1/2 an hour by taking the detour Newry-Poyntz Pass-Scarva (A27)-Banbridge (B10).

In your case, you could stay on the A27 all the way to Portadown, then pick up the M1 to Moira. The road is small, a bit curvy and with poor overtaking options, but it's in good nick and you can make good time on it. The biggest bogey is the potential for traffic in Portadown on your way to the M12.
