Rule Clarification

Playing Holdem NL Holdem Tourney with Celtic poker in Sligo. Player A Bet 2K, I called, player C went all in for 2.6K. Player A then called all in for another 5k. I said he could not re-raise as player C all in was not considered a raise as it was not equal to the previous bet. The tourmament director ruled against me. Was he correct.

no. you were correct. (ordinarily anyway. I guess if he's the TD then he can make up anything he likes...)

Yes you were right. Also Player A didn't 'call all-in', he raised all in

Have they many tournaments running over xmas ? Will be back in the homestead and a few games might be had, but hopefully a few home games will happen...

I'm pretty certain the TD is right here. It's no limit. Player A has bet 2K, it's been called by you and player C has raised all in. Player A then has a choice... To call. To Raise or to fold. He has reraised all in. What's the problem? The all in bet is 2.6K which is greater than the original bet, it is still a raise [an under-raise] and because of this the bet of 5k can be made instead of a pedantic 5.2k

The term "under-raise" wouldn't exist if it didn't mean something...

Ordinarily an under-raise cannot be reraised by somebody who has already had an opportunity to act.

His choices are call or fold.

Agreed, the fact that there has been an under-raise means that Player A cannot re-open the betting. I'm sure the dealers here will clarify.

What a silly arse I am... For some daft reason I thought player A was on the BB.

What BMC says is correct... I'll get my coat.

However just to add to the confusion. - In limit if the raise is half or more it usually counts as a full raise for betting purposes.

Pot limit is treated the same as no limit.

This happened to me in a tourney in the Fitz a while back. Holding AA under the gun I raised to 200 on a 25/50 blind. UTG+1 goes all in for 210 (!) and everyone (EVERYONE) calls. When it came back to me you can image I desperately wanted to kick in a huge raise but Luke's ruling (which is correct) is that I cannot "reraise" because I havent been "raised".

There is a good reason for this rule too, its to stop what is referred to as "seesawing". That is where two guys who are playing together reraise some poor git in the middle but only for a little more, all-in. Then the other will have another chance to speak and hoof it up, the sucker folds and the lads split his call.

    DeV.

Ruane is a good Sligo/Mayo name.

The Celtic Cowboys are from the Midlands around Carlow, Laois area.

You dont really think that the CPT are interested in learning the rules of poker? As long as theyre bleeding the industry dry they dont care.

i think he meant "called" as in "said aloud", not "called" as in "match the bet"

the TD was wrong but are we surprised? celtic poker were in tralee last week and a friend of mine was awarded a pot .board cards 2-3-4-5-9, my friends hole cards--A-Q, opponents---A-10. one of the floor staff stepped in and awarded him the hand because of the bigger kicker.(Q) even my buddy objected to being awarded the hand, all to no avail as the floor staff member declared he was fully trained in the rules. unbelievable but true.

WHAT!! I wouldn't have let the game continue until the proper decision was made. That is ridiculous

I would of went crazy... No way would i of let that happen i would of stopped the whole room and made a show of the member of staff. The guy who won the pot was probrbly his mate.

I also think he's the TD, and your 100% wrong! This kinda thing shouldnt be aloud, there should be a poker test these guys have to do befor they run a tourney.!!
Iv never been to a celtic poker tourney but i wont be either...
P.S. il train you in the rules for 100euro an hour, trying to build a bankroll here.
