I have limited bandwidth with my broadband.

Is there any way off stoping other people from uploading (legal) torrents so that they dont use up my bandwidth but so I can download (legal) torrents.

You REALLY REALLY shouldnt use shareaza for torrents. Its torrent functionality is crap and its use is really frowned upon. It's so bad that using it gets you banned from just about every private tracker.

I'd have to agree, its a extremely poor bittorrent client
using something like Azureus or uTorrent
    http://azureus.sourceforge.net/
    http://www.utorrent.com/

You can limit uploads/downloads using both these clients, there's even a number of plugins available for Azureus that allow you to limit up/downloads depending on time, network performence etc

The bittorrent network relies on people giving some of their upstream in exchange for some of other peoples downstream. Use a download-only protocol like usenet if you cant afford to share some bandwidth.

While I agree, I think he could still use bittorrent
Lets say he has 128K upstream, then he has 14-15k/sec to upload with, he could limit his client to maybe 10-12k/sec so it will not kill other things such as webpages when he is browsing.

Everyone does that. The OP seems to be asking how to leech off the network without having to contribute.

What I'm asking is how to limit the badwidth people can upload from me. Not every one has and can afford unlimited broadband.

there is a broadband package that has limits on uploads? ... just spend another €5 and get a package that has no upload limits :D

If you limit your upload speed with bittorrent, other people won't sent you as much data, and you'll cripple your download speeds.

This isnt about unlimited broadband, almost nobody in ireland has as fast upload as they do download. EVERYONE should be able to share to 1:1 ratio. If you dont youre a filthy leech and shouldnt be allowed to use torrents.

Either way, get a client like uTorrent www.utorrent.com and use that, itll let u cap uploads and downloads.

I've used Azureus and Bitcomet, they both have the option to limit upload speed.
