very new to this but we're thinking about getting a fta/ftv satellite system. since there seems to be no newbie thread i was hoping someone could tell me what i need for the best all round system, i.e most channels, best quality, value for money. ntl is up to 240 a year now and my dad is getting pissed off with it. would really appreciate any suggestions. (or if there is a good newbie thread, could someone point me in the right direction).

The best all in one package I saw to date is €250 the lot (install / cable/ lnb / dish / receiver) from O Connor TV in Galway . Some installers could charge €400 or €500 for the same thing.

DIY will come in at c.€200 , can you show me 28e on a compass :D

They all do the same number of channels (About 20 good, 200+ rubbish and about 70 radio), UNLESS you motorise (100 Euro extra motor, but higher install cost as it takes a little longer), Motorised with 80cm dish gives about 1500 TV and 1400 Radio, mostly rubbish!

You delete the channels you don't want.

thanks people, the motorised job sounds the part, although i take it this can be added in after? would like to try pointing at one satellite to see what the story is. what is the general opinion of maplins equipment?
