My parents who aren't hugh into tv have a sky minidish and digibox - subsription to sky long expired. Some time back ability to view free to air channels went - message was no signal being received. I assumed that dish was out of alignment but called a professional to realign and seems he told parents that the sky box was broken and dish ok.

Am basically looking for suggestions on getting back FTA channels at low cost. Would a second hand digibox be the bast bet - what would be likely cost or could a free to air receiver work with the sky dish?

    any suggestions welcome :)

You can find second had Sky boxes on e-bay/buy and sell for around €50 , some coming with a Free to view card aswell.

Yeah a Free To Air box works on a sky supplied dish, they can be picked up pretty cheap on the web , check out satellite.ie they got some good stuff there and are really quick with delivery.

Sky may give a new box / install and only require a 3 month contract. This on the 21 Euro per month 2 x mixes is 84 Euro worst case.

The regular Sky number won't do it. But keep pestering and they give a number to ring to discuss it.

If it is a 2500 PAce the tuner dies. I have two faulty. Not a DIY job, but I can replace them. Expensive from www.satcure.co.uk , Kesh Electronics does them cheap abou £18

Either way it will cost labour also (50Euro) to replace the tuner. And if it is old box PSU might fail next.

Less than 90 Euro buys a "better than Digibox" digital receiver from such as www.satellliteie or 130 Euro a LNB, receiver and Dish from Maplin.

I only do stuff in the Limerick City area and south side environs
