number of useful/interesting posts on boards.ie

Was on boards.ie when in college and have returned many moons later with a new user name. Initially enjoyed the interesting information and opinion to be found on here but have become less and less inclined to visit and post. Is it just me or is there at least 4 pointless posts for every good one?

I'm not just talking about 'funny' comments, but all the posts along the lines of 'i think you and your posts are stupid', 'don't like it tbh', 'try google' and the various in jokes flying about, how many boards users do you have to press the ignore button on before you have sorted the wheat from the chaff? - another poll??

I voted 1 in 5 or worse, but that was just directed at AfterHours, which is full of crappy posts&threads but thats what its there for.

In Specific topic forums I'm sure its more like 1 in 3 or maybe 1 in 4 posts are useful.

Specific interest forums have a much better ratio. eg, Rugby is grand except for all the kiwi noise.

keep the cliches coming though.

is it because everyone is trying to up their post counts or that every visit isn't complete without a post or 2?

depends on the sub-forum. obviously after hours gets most of the dodgy comments, but that by-and-large keeps them away from the other more serious subforums...

If we could cull the under 16's and place everyone under 20 that needs it on hormone-suppresants we might get the noise ratio down. Even the addition of things like the Cuckoos nest seems to have done little to improve things

A big, site-wide injection of fluffiness is called for.
That or 0-tolerance for bitchy posts.

Although, in defense: some people really should use the wonderful search facility that is available again on Boards, or google.. When you're asking for help in a community, it's only fair that you meet the potential helpers half way..

possibly there will be a reduction in reposts with search back up, it was down for a couple of months though so a lot of newer visitors may never have seen it working...
