bought a medion pc from aldi last thursday and found i had a problem(see my other post if you think you can help). so i just went onto their german website to see if they had any answers, it went on sale their a couple of weeks ago so i hoped there'd be some feedback there by now. what i did find out was that the same product was sold in germany for 100 euros less. did'nt take them long to get the hang of rip-off ireland.

Market forces, that's life. They sold it for the same price in austria as they did here. The difference in VAT rates accounts for some of the price difference, but certainly not all of it.

what problem are you having?[edit: just seen, no clue , only barley got basic cable working]
As for it being a rip - off, compared to other pcs being sold here, it makes up for the extra 100.

didn't say it was a rip off. in fact i am delighted with it. i just hate it when companies selling in ireland charge more here than elsewhere. as for transportation i've seen things in aldi in bigger boxes selling for less than 50euros. so the unit cost of transportation couldn't be that high. as for vat i wonder what the rate is in germany.

Dont forget german VAT is only 17%, wheras ours is 21%.

Extra cost is probably that plus the additional cost of providing warranty support here, Medion don't have an office in Ireland

Difference between transporting a ladder and transporting a PC.

Some people never happy, at 1099 thats a bargain and about 900 of a bargain if you were to spec out the same on Dells website.

germany has lower VAT and is medions and Aldis base. And the PCs are assembled there.

100 euro extra is very reasonable. And thats not even taken into account the **** competition in Ireland. Aldi could get away with ALOT more and still sell-out.

    It's probably VAT.

A Dell which is made in Limerick is cheaper here in France than the same one sold in Ireland.

Since the German VAT rate is 17% and ours is 21% - that's a 4% difference, accounting for around €44 of the price difference. Add transport to that and the higher wages/operations costs/property costs they probaly have to pay here and it makes a little more sense.
