Sky box and Sky card

    Hiya,

I am looking for the answer to the following if anyone knows.I

I have 2 houses: 1 in Dun Loaghaire and 1 in Wicklow.

In Wiclow, i have a subscription to Sky and the sattelitte and the box. All is fine.

In Dun Laoghaire, i had NTL and ended the subscription and instead got sky to install a dish only, which they did.

I live in both houses and go up and down all the time.

So now what i do is i bring the box with me when i go to Dun Laoghaire and it works fine, so basically at the moment i travel around between wicklow and Dun Laoghaire with my sky box and card and hook it up wherever i am.

The buty of it, is that now, i only have 1 subscription to sky and got rid of NTL to save me having to pay 2 providers.

I was thinking that if i got a spare sky box, i could install it permanently in 1 one house and have the other one in the other house and then just keep the card on me rather than travelling up and down with the box.
But, i tried my card on a freind's sky box, and it would not accept it as the serial number of the card is written in the setup menu and can not be changed.

Does anyone know if that could work and would you know the codes for setting up the serial number of the sky card on the sky box, as do the installer when they installed the box for the 1st time.

    Thanks.

Your card is paired to the first box.
    You cannot swap it.

there are solutions. read through the threads. Get a mirror sub or a FTV card are two.

I am pretty sure that only the Premium channels require the card to be in the original box, so Sport & Movies wont work, but all the Irish Stations and the rest of the family pack work in a different box.

You cant avail of a mirror subscription as the conditions of the multiroom contract are that both boxes need to be connected to the same fixed phone line so that sky can check that the two boxes are in the same location. They do check regularly and will bill you for two subscriptions if you are in breach.

FTV card, search the forum here for more info, they are available to people in the UK, but can be bought on ebay etc...

If i insert the card in another box, i can not get any channels, i get a nice message saying that the wrong viewing card is inserted.

Then if the orginal card is inserted and if i look at the system setup, the viewing card serial number is encoded there and can not be changed.

There must be codes available so you can change the serial number of the viewing card, otherwise how to the installer do it when he installs the sky box for the 1st time.

When swaping the cards over and you get the wrong card message you can either press backup on the remote or preferably unplug the box insert the new card and power back up. You cant change the serial number on the box or card, only sky can, and they will only match one card to one box at any time.

You could try buyin a pair of matched Pace boxes from here - identical serial numbers so no probs with card swapping between boxes.
