Where I work, there are restrictions on exchange mailbox sizes, so i need to archive my email through outlook almost every week. Now i have about 20 separate .pst files saved in a folder. But whwnever i need to find an email and dont have the exact date, i need to go through them all individually.

Is there any way of amalgamating all (or some) of the files into one big .pst file?

Google desktop will crawl through PST files as far as i can remember... having mailbox restrictions is absolutely pointless in this day and age, while you're at it complain that it will only lead to more and more people using external mail addresses for work purposes. Storage is cheap.

maybe im stating the obvious here but you can just drag and drop,
word of caution though , pst files run the risk of getting corrupted
when they get very large, as far as i remember ms recommend file size
of about 2gb's however i recommend to our users to keep
them under 700mb's as this way they can easily be backed up to cd's
