USI story here: http://www.indymedia.ie/newswire.php?story_id=73213 Also comments later down about some TCD officers in USI resigning. Won't mention the names, but one of them is a fellow TCD boardie...

...must be a serious state of affairs... (if true - you can't always believe what some anonymous poster says)

tis interesting - am now on the USI working group thanks to elections (no idea how i got that after my last point) - actually i think anyone at council knows who resigned etc. so no need to mention names.

With the number of large SU's that have disaffiliated with USI, whats to come?

well i wasn't there...uuhhh hadda read the article to find out...it was long...i skipped to the bottom...

its a sad state of affairs. but i can see how it happened. USI was a ticking timebomb.
With the resignation of the officers, i personally have no faith left is USI.
I feel sorry for the officers who truly did a great job and tried to work within the framework with USI, but its like re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
I don't think USI will be around much longer, if only this had happened earlier in the year, we might not have shelled out 65,000 euro for affiliation.
There are elements of USI that were really beneficial and really made a difference to students, but in looking at the whole picture. I think that indymedia article might be right. I think USI might be dead.

..I never thought i'd say this.

    i feel physically sick.

    wait for it.

    *sigh* I agree with IndyMedia...

i'm going to go vomit now.

ah sure drop along for a few pints near the end of the term - we'll cheer you up. or you'll end up in Tijuana with 17 naked hookers with no wallet - either way it'll be a good time.

    Sure, why not?

I feel good now being too lazy to pay the money for them.

p.s. know its the last thing you're thinking about right now. But if you decide to go back and do the PhD and want to do it in Ireland (as opposed to the US) then the deadline for the Government of Ireland (IRCHSS) scholarships is January 16th. Given the christmas period etc its not too far away in terms of the time it takes to get references etc. (although, given your position in usi there is a strong likelihood you know this already!)

Fair play to you Daithi. No-one can say you didnt try your best, and I'm sure the same goes for the majority of the officer board.

I think you only need one reference (could be wrong) but they have to recommend your application which obviously requires them reading it so it's best to get going.

Sorry to hear you've left Daithi.

Just read Jane's piece and it really is shocking. This sentence rang particularly true:

'I refuse to be part of an organisation in which value judgements on what affects students and what doesn’t are made by people who are not students.'

Didn't know about the bin tax or siptu comments, they're absolutely outrageous.

    TRATOR cuckoo...

meh. i like reading different sides and views of an argument. and, they have a very different viewpoint over there as it's an SU site then here on boards which is a more general student outpost.

if it makes you feel better agent smith, i don't post there...

On a flippant note, i'm wondering who'll be the next one out in the USI 'i'm a national officer, get me out of here!' drama. Cameras in the office and a TV deal would solve any and all funding issues - it would make great television.

Yeh I wouldn't be suprised either if there are one or two other offiers which are thinking of moving onto better things. I guess a lot will depend on whether colleges actually start disaffiliation campagins in the next month or two. I bet moral is at its lowest point at the mo.
