New guitar, any advice?

I'm interested in picking up a new electric guitar for christmas. I started playing a few years ago, and the initial guitar was thebog standard starter pack variety... really horrible. I moved up to an imitation les paul made by Tanglewood about 12-18 months ago. Its a nice enough guitar, but i don't particularly like the sound off it any more. I find the humbuckers on it give a "muted" (for lack of a better word) sound. Even with the treble on my amp up full, it doesn't give me that "trebly" sound.

Now, i don't know much about guitars. I know the names of a few brands, but nothing specific really. I was in town (dublin city centre) earlier today looking around at a few, but i don't have any real idea what i should be looking for. My existing guitar cost about €350, so i should be able to sell it on for about €250 at least, as its in excellant condition. So my pricerange for a new guitar would be up to about €450 (give or take).

I'd generally play rock/jazz/classical/blues kinda stuff, so a guitar that gives a nice clean sound would be nice. If anyone could recommend some guitars i could play to get an idea what the sound is like, that'd be great. I'll probably end up buying the guitar off the internet (either of thomann.de or another site) so feel free to link me to specific guitars at internet shops that ship to ireland when ye recommend something.

They are quite nice guitars. You might want to play a few MIM Fenders aswel, maybe a tele. Its all down to personel taste really but these would be greeat places to start your search.

A strat is definitely good for clean sounds. If I was you I wouldn't rule out second hand either. If you narrow it down a bit you can count on getting plenty more advice on this board (much of it quite good) :p
    Good luck with your search.

Having just done a set up job on a Lite Ash Tele, they're pretty ****ing nice for the money, so I'd say Lite Ash Strat and then save up for a JB jr. Sorted :)
