    Just in case anyone doesnt know, tickets for the Electric Picnic went on Sale today for €175.00 + booking fee.

    If its even half as good as last year its going to be an amazing (now 3 days long) festival.

    This is the e-mail I received regarding it...

    ELECTRIC PICNIC 06 - TICKETS GO ON SALE MONDAY 28TH NOV

    "What a wonderful weekend. Electric Picnic has raised the bar for the music festival in Ireland... Crucially, the experience for the 25,000 people who attended each day was second to none...attention was paid to the smallest details." Irish Independent

    "The Picnic is such a breath of fresh air for concert-goers in this country. The huge sucess of this year's event has changed the lie of the land... A brilliant festival is not just about the bands or the location or the chip-free food stalls or the atmosphere or the Body & Soul village or the attention to detail. It's about the quality of the whole event. It's about mutual respect." The Irish Times

    "I have been to pretty much every festival in the UK and a bunch across Europe and I was amazed that something in my own back yard could top the lot. Great organisation, great alternative entertainment, facilities, food, no queues, good security and an amazing bill' BBC Northern Ireland

    THEY CAME FROM FAR AND WIDE. A recent breakdown of tickets purchased via Ticketmaster online to 2005's event surprisingly showed the following transactions worldwide. Assuming that a minimum of 2/3 tickets were purchased per transaction this amounts to almost 15% of festival goers being foreign visitors.

    Australia x 9
    Austria x 1
    Belgium x 2
    Canada x 1
    France x 2
    Germany x 9
    Isreal x 1
    Italy x 1
    Japan x 2
    Luxembourg x 1
    Netherlands x 6
    New Zealand x 1
    Norway x 4
    Northern Ireland x 406
    Sth Africa x 1
    Spain x 6
    Sweden x 4
    Switzerland x 1
    United Kingdom x 564
    USA x 22
    Uzbekistan x 1

    A truly cosmopolitan melting pot! Hopefully our foreign friends will be back again next year.

    SO - here's the beef. Camping tickets go on sale Monday 28th Nov. There is an inevitable and regrettable increase in ticket price, they are €175 incl booking fee. The event will be a three day event, as promised we will be offering a separate Quiet Campsite & a separate Campervan campsite plus improving other site facilities, with particular attention on the campsite loos & rubbish, providing more showers, plus lots of other little electric extras & surprises in the main arena.

    Christ, €175 is a bloody ripoff.

    For a 3 day festival 180 euro is damn good. Oxegen will probably be close to 160 next year and thats only two days. Glastonbury was the equivalent of 190 euro this year. All prices including booking fees.

    I believe there are plans to add an extra day to Oxegen from next year.

    €175 is mucho imo considering the extra costs of buses to and from the festival, the fact that they want more money for a timetable, and that the beer will be overpriced piss.

    Every festival has hidden costs. Exactly how are you planning on getting to Europe? The buses and timetable thing is a bit crap Ill agree but not a neccesity. Bum a lift and print out the inevitably leaked timetables.

    Also on the drink front the electric picnic had a decent array of drinks as well as let you bring in plenty of your own booze into the arena area. Its easy enough to keep the costs down.

    Not saying 180 euro is cheap.. just that its not a rip off. We are getting 33% more festival for about 20% of an increase. Thats 13% festival extra free!

    not really, the lineups were released last year so you didn't have to spend a tenner on them like oxegen, and you're allowed bring your own drink into the arena and the selection and price inside was fairly reasonable.

    added to that it's not full of 16year old twats setting fire to tents and puking everywhere.

    been to 4 witnness/oxegens and EP once, EP will be getting my money well ahead of the ****hole that oxegen will...

    i'm in agreement, due to the sheer amount of scumbags and scobes ar oxegen i'll be hard pushed to go, and would rather pay 175 for 3 days of music and general niceness at EP

    Electric Picnic was a great weekend and I'll definitely be going again. Those people who are fed up with Oxegen (and there is much to be fed up with) should check it out.

    Last year I went to a festival in Belgium that lasted four days for cheaper than it cost for me to go to Electric Picnic

    Dour Festival, Belgium
    Festival ticket - > 70
    Flights -> 50
    Train/bus to/from Festival site -> 20
    Total -> 140

    Electric Picnic
    Festival ticket -> 140
    Bus -> 40
    Total -> 180

    That's actually pretty good.

    It was exactly like Oxegen, they were leaked the day before.

    If they're not on the site at least a week before the festival then it's a farce. People need to know where the fuck they're going early.

    Hmm... convincing percentages... :v: I must disgress though, past lineups just haven't been worth the money imo. Even Oxegen was much stronger this year in comparison.

    Electric Picnic just like oxegen has degenerated into a money grabbing exercise. Herd the people in and milk them for all their money.

    Seeing as Glastonbury is not on this year it looks like Roskilde or maybe Sziget in Budapest is the place to be this summer.

    Dour
    Everything is relative. The lineup for Dour while including some bands Id have killed to see is pretty low key in comparison to the bands playing Electric Picnic. Also Id put some value on the time you'd have to sacrifice for travel and unexpected events that can occur abroad (I lost all my gear at Glastonbury this year due to floods and had to replace it at festival prices).

    Not saying that because Dour has lesser known bands or that its in Belguim somehow makes its worse (far from it) just saying that you are getting something for the amount extra you paid for Electric Picnic. The price is in line with similar events in this country and the UK with similar calibre bands and I think its incorrect to call it a ripoff.

    Of course I am assuming Aitken actually book a lineup of equal or greater quality. They wouldn't let me down now would they?

    My percentages are off I think.. Ill have to redo them. I dont know how youd define stronger. In terms of stature in their target audience I think both line ups were comparable. The EP lineup wouldnt appeal to everyone though.
    Capitilism sucks
    Not sure exactly your point here. Yeh they wanted to make money but nothing was overpriced (certainly not inline with oxegen). Everyone bitches about the timetable but the EP timetable was 8euro and you got a full program with it. That seemed reasonable. Ill give you the buses were overpriced certainly.. but everything else was grand.

    Dour - Left Dublin Airport Thursday morning, arrived festival Thursday afternoon, left festival Monday morning (early), arrived home Monday morning in time for work.

    EP - Left Dublin Saturday morning, arrived Saturday afternoon, left Monday morning, arrive back Monday morning in time for work.

    You could easily lose your stuff in EP too and need to replace it, though I guess going home is an easier option.

    What is this "something"?

    Looks to me like you're saying that because EP book acts that are "big name" it's a better festival.

    You've totally missed the point of my argument. Maybe I diluted it myself. I'm saying that the EP is offering value for money based on the lineup, location and general setup of the festival.

    "Bigger" bands are more expensive. I specifically said they aren't neccesarily better. Im not trying to compare if one festival is better than the other I am talking purely about if the ticket price is fair. For the acts that will play EP I believe it is.

    My father has been working on the concert scene since about 1991. I meet the site mangers on a regular basis through work.
    My work calander for next year is already planned out, festivals, concerts etc.
    It is great knowing the line up and dates of gigs even before the newspapers ;)

    Fair enough so.

    Any word of the frontrunners for the festival headline slots next summer?

    Never been to a festival on the continent so can only compare to oxegen/witness, EP are ever bit as monry hungey as oxegen the difference is in the atmosphere at the gig, that and the lack of scumbags and hassle makes it far superior in my opinon. (while it is funny seeing scobes sunburned and munted drunk at oxegen i get bored of it)
