DVD Recorder - Incompatable??

    Hi guys,
I've been asked this question but as I don't own a DVD Recorder I can't give an honest answer. Basically the problem is that any programs that this person records on their DVD Recorder won't play back on their other DVD player. Is it a question of incompatable media (DVD-R, DVDR+ etc.,) or do you have to finalize discs to enable them to play on other machines. (by the way, the DVDs they record can be played back on the Recorder).
    Thanks

Format issues with DVD recorders are a dime a dozen these days.

Usually finalizing the disc will mean it can be played on "most" other DVD players,
but I've encountered some older ones that will still throw up problems
trying to read the menu structure.

    Thanks Shamalive,
I'll have to get the person to read their manual 'cos undoubtedley it'll be a case of 'finalize what?'

+rw do not need to be finalized, I use them all the time, there is one player they did not work in out of about 10 I tried.

RW do not have to be finalised; however, as you illustrated, it does improve compatibility. The previous poster was trying to be helpful, and was right to suggest this step.

The -/+ incompatibility can only be answered by checking the spec's of the applicable models / hardware.

Brand of media can also play a part.
