    Hi guys,

I'll be finished college next June and really want to travel for a while, maybe in Asia. My question is this, has anyone done anything that would be cool? Unfortunately finances would not allow voluntary work (as much as I would like to obviously!). Teaching English etc would be good, but I want to make sure that I'll be with other people from Ireland, as I don't think I would be very good at handling a totally new country all by myself! Anyone know of any programmes that help with this? (Apart from JET - I missed the deadline :-( )

Any help/advice/random stories for inspiration would be appreciated!
    Thanks

Sure - apply for the FÁS overseas graduate programme at www.fas.ie - they'll give you up to a 2 year (fully paid) placement in Japan, China or Taiwan if you're from an engineering or technical background.

Also, if you want technical work for just a few months, try IAESTE, they'll give you a placement for up to 1 year, with pay at local going rates, and a real job too. And they'll help cover your flights. AIESEC is the non-technical equivalent, they're rather more expensive though.

Oh, and for the record, I went to Skopje, Macedonia with IAESTE this summer. It was really really good craic (but it did cost me about €1000 overall). I worked as a computer programmer (and amateur beer tester), and it was very sociable. Made loads of friends, can't wait to visit them all again...
