Has An Post Deliveries Speeded Up ?

Comreg have leaned on an Post. An Post have come up with shoddy creative accounting to appear to comply to the regulations.

    examples.

    1. There is a next day delivery target WITHIN IRELAND so creative solutions are :

    a) bump the foreign post because there is no target for that
    b) bring last collections forward from 6.30 (typically) until 4.30 in order to guarantee next day delivery

    2. There is no TARGET for foreign inbound, resources have been diverted out of there . 1 week inbound deliveries are now 2-3 weeks .

    3. The unions and management are not talking so the sorting centres are heading for gridlock with all the unresolved disputes.

    4. Temp posts are not being filled so some post offices only have 1 postman where there were Three and deliveries to their addresess are only done 2 days a week now not five.

    5. The overall service disimproved MARKEDLY after An Post were refused a rise in charges about a month back .

Are An Post sulking like choildren with Comreg and making us all suffer ???????? .

    Finally

    6. I know of a company in Clare which has suffered atrocious cashflow problems because they could not get invoices to their english customers. A staff member is now sent to Enniskillen every month (early) to post the invoices out to their customers.

Eircom probably told An Post how to deal with their mutual regulator !!!!

Your friend might consider something like http://www.accountis.com/accountis/index.html (online invoicing)
for their major customers. It may be more expensive than post but if it's faster the cashflow advantage could make it worth it.

As for the An Post delays, I've noticed that dropping from 5 days a week too, local next day deliveries can take three days, and items despatched from two different uk suppliers on the same day have arrived ten days apart.

I think the postmen are having to batch up to cope with the workload, and I'm assuming overtime has been cut.

They should have been given the price rise, it's labour-intensive and with the cost of living in this country etc.

Maybe if An Post were sold to Irish Ferries and Mary Ellen Synon brought in as HR Manageress...

I have lost 2 CDs in the post (coming Fron England) in the last month. Luckily both were replaceable. Think the problem is with Royal Mail aswell. Was reading the Postage / Shipping Forum. Think I will have to get stuff sent via registered mail in future.

Edit: The postage / Shipping Forum on ebay.

I was wondering where the hell my stuff inbound from the UK was. Posted two weeks ago...still waiting...

    *grump*

Anyone in An Post I can check to see "is there post someplace destined for <insert address>" ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,924 ✭✭✭✭BuffyBot

Actually, in their defence, I posted a letter last week to an address in the UK and it arrived in record time. Incoming post has been fairly ok of late too.

Letters seem to be arrriving fine. I can get a business letter from England in 3 days. It seem to be the smaller packages containing DVDs and CDs etc, that seem to go "missing"! I have just asked a seller to register a package using Royal Mail Track and Trace apparently it only costs 66p extra. Ill just have to wait and see.

i've noticed that i get post once a week now if i'm lucky.

Got a letter postmarked 9 sept on the 19 sept....10days. it was posted in donnybrook which is less than a mile from where it had to be delivered.

I tend to get all my mail in big clumps now....with various postmarks dated on them.

The rumour I heard was that the postmen were doing it (their job) on overtime. Since the price increase was rejected I'd guess o/t has been slashed. The regulator is doing a job for the government in pressuring An Post to cut costs, sounds good in theory, but this shoestring operation has got to be increasing the risk of things going 'missing' too, not good.

I was using www.screenclick.ie up until recently and I had to stop because about 30% of my dvd's were going "missing". They would post 2 and I would get 1 and sometimes nothing at all.

I received a book from the uk last week and it took 2 working weeks to get to me. 2 books were send from the same location on the same day and I got one of the a couple of days later.

Still waiting on a CD form CDWOW, which was dispatched on the 15th of September!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,907 ✭✭✭✭CJhaughey

Some stuff from UK has taken up to 20 days
other stuff from USA has taken as little as 2 days,
I don;t know what the problem is, there used to be 3 posts a day back in history now we are lucky to get it twice or 3 times a week.
    Progress?

My Dad had a personal letter and some fishing flies sent from the UK - took 16 and 19 days respectively....ridiculous.

Having read through the thread, it seems to me that sooner or later both An Post and Royal Mail are going to face competition either from private companies or the threat of privatisation.

I am happy to pay for a service that delivers - I use the Priority service for parcels and always find it ok - so the other outcome will be that the days of being able to post a letter for under a euro will disappear...as it is this kind of mail is subsidised by corporate users anyway and with costs rising this is the logical conclusion.

Ray was raving about An Post this morning - having missed an invitation to something or other, taking two weeks to get delivered.

At this stage Id spend the extra money for a courier to deliver the bloody post.

I'm participating in an international postal survey, where I receive and post letters from abroad. I just log the sent dates and received dates on a website, as well as the stamp date.

Some letters from abroad arrive in 2 days, but lately, especially in the last month, 5-6 days is getting far more common.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 25,234 ✭✭✭✭Sponge Bob

5 or 6 , bet if you were not in the survey it would be 15 or 16 days :(

it's gotten very bad in the last month, and I've been doing this for about a year now.

But will this chaotic disimprovement show in any official stats or is the data you 'supply' hidden from us by An Post /and/or Comreg ?????

The traffic peak is in Late Nov and Dec , we effectively won't have a postal service by then I fear if they are this bad in September :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,518 ✭✭✭✭dudara

This is the survey i participate in. I don't know how the statistics gathered are used, but I understand that the survey is sponsored by private companies

I ordered goods from Komplett- and chose to have them delivered by An Post recorded delivery for a tenner (well anyone has to be better than GLS.....)
Delivery (which arrived today) took 11 working days, and apparently it sat in a postal sorting office in Portlaoise for 8 of those working days.
I rang An Post querying this- and was told that since they closed SDS on the Naas Road- that all packages larger than a letter from abroad are now routinely sent to Portlaoise or Athlone for sorting (so tough luck to anyone waiting for anything in Dublin......)

I also received a copy of New Scientist in the post today- the issue dated the 22nd of August.

    I am seriously pissed......

Still no improvement in the postal deliveries this week...althogh wierdly enough I received an item from cdwow and credit card bill :( through the door on saturday!!

Everything else from cdwow and other international deliveries has gone over the longest time I've experienced so far of 17 days...have visions of all my stuff piled up in the sorting office somewhere :(

I received a hotel confirmation on Friday the 7th of October. It post marked the 22nd of August in Birmingham.

similar to most others, stuff is taking at least 2/3 weeks to come from the uk (play.com & cdwow). Tho the real pain is when i get stuff from an order that was sent a day after the rest of an order, and that rest still hasn't appeared... :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,473 ✭✭✭✭Our man in Havana

There is some sort of unofficial dispute at Portlaoise which handles all international mail. :(

Last month my wife's company posted an A4 envelope from US to the Dublin office (a large business park in Dublin 15). The letter was returned to the US with "Address Not Known".
They get letters to the same address every day, since they moved there 6 months ago!!
(Only difference is that the returned letter abbreviated the company name e.g. "Micky Mack Ireland" was changed to "MM Ireland". Address was not changed - gave building and even the floor!!)

Person in US resent letter via FedEx to the exact same address. This arrived okay.

I've just written a letter to An Post Customer Service (GPO, Dublin 1). I encourage everyone to do the same. Probably no harm in sending a copy to ComReg too.

I mailed a letter (a wedding card) to my brother in Sacramento, California USA on September 4th from a post office in Dublin. The letter got to him yesterday! Six weeks later! I also sent a CD to a buddy of mine in Manchester UK which took two weeks using airmail. Something has to change quick or I'd say loads of companies will be suffering. I'd say Screenclick.ie has already gone belly up.

Cork County Hall are spazzing out with the An Post situation. Case documents are not reaching solicitors when they are ment to !

I'm now wondering if An Post are solely to blame. On 30 Spetember I got an email from an ebay seller in Paris telling me he'd shipped my item. I got it this morning. Using the tracking numbers I saw that he had posted it on the 30th and it left France on the 10th (all from La Poste site) , arrived in Portlaoise yesterday and hit Cork today (from An Post site). So this yoke spent 10 days in the French system when it really should have left more or less immediately.

I also got a DHL Road service parcel today which had spent 4 days in its London depot and arrived in Cork 32 hours after leaving London finally.

The front page of the Irish Times has a story on the postal system collapse today. After weeks of putting up stats in the Dublin sorting office showing that 50% of mail coming in went out the same day An Post has now removed the stats because they were consistently crap and SHOWING NO IMPROVEMENT.

No mention of the incoming international mail fisaco though :(

2 cds from the US (Amazon.com). Dispatched 1st September and still haven't arrived.

1 dvd from Play.com. Dispatched 28th September and still haven't arrived.

I will definitely be ordering any items I need for christmas in the next few weeks. I expect chaos in the postal system this christmas!!

yea this is a joke. I'm now hesitant to buy a car stereo online from the UK or Ebay because of the delays. I've been waiting over 4 weeks for the arrival of a few small parcels from Hong Kong

I have two sendit packages from 27 Sept and 28 Sept still undelivered. Jersey must be slower than England.

There's a good few items, music and tv/film that I want to order and for once, I can actually afford, but I am hesitating because of this shambles.
