Im thinking of getting a new dog, maybe in the new year.

I dont know what type to get?

I live in the city so it has to be something small but would also like to have a dog that easy to look after and doesnt need loads of specialist attention like some dogs do?

Because id get a smallish dog I dont want something that looks really gay.
Im basicly looking for a companion that I can bring on lots of walks and can keep me company and basicly have a bit of fun with.

Any ideas what type of dog or breed I should look at?

    A cat :D

Seriously though, how easy do you want it to be?

By city do you mean apartment? Some small dogs are extremely yappy!

What do you mean by specialist attention?

And how gay is gay? !!!!!

Im living in Douglas, Cork. Nice suburb very near the country and beach but still the city. We have a big backgarden too.

Gay as in poodle. I dont want to look like that gay guy in "This Boy's life"

Speciallist attention as in grooming and regular check ups that some breeds need to have.

A cat...no way. They are all nice and cute when they are small but when they get bigger they are the most self centered creatures alive.

Cairn terriers are nice dogs. Not as snappy as other small dogs.

Also spotted Bichon Frisè. They look so adorable but very small and fragile. Maybe too small for me. Also a Havanese but I think my friend has one so thats out.

Also did you see this guy?

Poodles (esp. larger poodles) are a working dog and are tougher than you would think, only look 'gay' if you cut their hair the way they do in shows.
Small dogs can have a lot of energy esp. terriers but any dog is going to bound around the place unless you give them decent walks and lots of attention but you have access to some good places to walk so that shouldn't be a problem. Contact some of the rescues in the area and state exactly what you are looking for, e.g. small, friendly house dog must be good natured etc. Cork animals friends might be worth a try.

We had a coupla french poodles when i was a kid, they are hardy buggers and as stated above, they dont look gay at all without their coat trimmed

:v: < that furs a bitch to keep clean though

Don't see them round very often but the last one I saw was lovely, has his hair intact, full of energy too. Smashing looking dog.

a whippet! (or a small lurcher)
They are the business. Couch potatoes inside, easily exercised, not prone to barking, extremely affectionate without being demanding, really clean. And they are beautiful.
    I just love my dog.
This is a good link and description, and the dog in the picture looks just like my fella.

emmm first things first jank its a yorkshire terrier

poodles arent "gay"....but in saying that i show poodles and gay lads do show them..but that dooesnt mean that poodles in pet trim are gay. Poodles are actually one of the smartest breeds that you will find and they dont shed. The one downfall is that in pet trim they do need to be brought to a grromers. Poodles are perfect as house pets and are more like cats as they get older as they arent destructive, and all they want to do is sit on your knee, although they dont have the bad points that cats do!

Bichons can be vicious so i wouldnt go that way.....if you're looking for a smallish dog...a lhasa apso would be a good choice....i cant think of anymore right now!

I think he means a dog that looks like something a girl would own. To be honest, I'm a girl and I think poodles/bichons etc are way too girly looking!

I hate yorkies, they're cranky, noisey little feckers:p

Not exactly true --- there only snappy with strangers so that makes them a good guard dog!

And even at that five minutes later they have calmed down.;)

But everyone to thier own i suppose

Get a rescue dog. When you go to the shelter you will know which one you want!

Get an Irish Wolfhound its a lovely little doggy.
Just think about it - no more annoying kids on halloween, stupid carol singers on boxing day, fecking postman bring you more bills. One command and chomp problem gone, the dog will practically feed itself!

If your really stuck for space get a rabbit with "HUGE TEETH".
