Anybody signed up with Imagine or Gaelic Telecom for their broadband?

Was looking at it - 19.99 a month for always on.

    Sounds like a good deal

Don't. Go for BT BB if you can; Imagine end up costing just as much and you get a lot less, the lowest package from BT with line rental included would be better then Imagine.

    What he said ^^^

how would it end up costing me a lot more?

Its 19.99 per month for always on... Surely they cannot charge me more than that?

Explain the difference with the two offers?

Forget about line rental etc - I'm just talking broadband here

Why forget about line rental? Other ISP's have products which include reduced (or even free) line rental, it would seem to make perfect sense to include line rental as part of the overall price.

Imagine make you move your calls/line rental over to them and take a call package you may or may not want. With BT if you move your line over you get a reduced rate and their calls are cheaper. You also get a higher cap with BT.

Imagine hides too many charges like compulsory non discounted line rental and call charges . Once you add them together you are better off with BT , if you make lots of landline-landline calls within Ireland and to the UK you are way better off with BT

Having said that BT billing is scary when it goes wrong , dunno about Imagine and their billing.

You can't forget about line rental. You have to look at the bigger picture and look at the overall package.
    Imagine 1mb package. 12gb cap
    €19.99 p/m
€2.99 Modem rental (or purchase for €44.99)
    €24.18 Line rental
    €44.99 Connection charge
-€20 discount for signing up online
Total cost for 6 months = €307.95 if you rent the modem. €290.01 if you buy it. Plus you must take one their calls packages.
They will charge you 3c per mb for going over your cap and I have a feeling they will charge you.

    BT mb package. 12gb cap
€25 p/m including line rental for the first 6 months. €40 after that.
    €50 Connection charge
    Free modem
    Total cost for 6 months = €230
They also say they will charge 3c per mb for going over the cap but they never do.

Imagine are a minimum 8 month contract, you may not give NOTICE until 6 months are up and you must give it in writing .

Thats the first day of the seventh month at the earliest so the contract will run into month 8 by at least one day .

do ye work for BT or something??

Modem rental - is that for the router?

Line rental is only 19.99 I thought? And thats paid for with whoever my voice services are with

    BT connection charge is €50...

and the broadband costs €30 a month after 4 months...

It doesn't say anywhere in their terms and conditions that I have to take their call packages... the contract is also for 6 months as far as I see.

anyway was thinking of signing up with Gaelic Telecom for the calls to support my local GAA club.

If you get imagine BB you HAVE to take their call package. It is there somewhere. That includes line rental.

You have to take their call packages .

You may give your written one months notice notice the day after your six months is up ,. You post it to Imagine . It arrives the day after that which is the 2nd day of the 7th month, your connection end s on the second day of the 8th month. Therefore yoru minimum contract is 8 months NOT 6. If it was really six month syou should be allowed to give notice in a way where the period expires at the end of the 6 months ....like around the end of the 4th month but before the beginning of the 5th

Read the T and C's more carefully will ya :p

No, they are simply the best of a bad lot.
anyway was thinking of signing up with Gaelic Telecom for the calls to support my local GAA club.
Just give them money directly instead of through a third party.

do ye work for BT or something??
No. It's just the best value package for BB. (NTL and Smart being the possible exceptions if your in their limited coverage areas).
Modem rental - is that for the router?
    Yes.
Line rental is only 19.99 I thought? And thats paid for with whoever my voice services are with
Imagine have some complicated discount involving their line rental and calls. It's possible to get your line rental down to around €19 but you have to spend something like €60 on calls each month for this to happen. Yes you have to pay line rental to whatever provider your with but with BT it's discounted to €10 and not connected to the amount of calls you make.
    BT connection charge is €50...

and the broadband costs €30 a month after 4 months...
Yes the connection charge is €50 and their BB is €30 but when you bundle the BB and line rental it's €40. Thats where the saving is.
It doesn't say anywhere in their terms and conditions that I have to take their call packages
The hidden charges and compulsory add-ons are the biggest gripe about Imagine here on Boards since they launched. You're right it doesn't mention this in the T&C's but step 2 of the online ordering process is "Select your call package" . You HAVE to transfer your calls and line rental to them when signing up for their BB.
anyway was thinking of signing up with Gaelic Telecom for the calls to support my local GAA club.
You'd be aswell off buying an extra few club lotto tickets or making donations to your local club. At least you'll know your money is going to where you want it to go.

you dont have to pay the connection fee for the imagine bb 9.99 for 20 hours , but you have to pay it for the always on ?

how does that make sense - why does the connection for always on cost 40e more ?

The above posts are 6 years old and today the issues with Gaelic Imagine are the same..dreadful company sitting on the back of Eircom so amateur..their site..their customer account system online..their service..their routers..not to mention the phone they supply...why are they still in business..they even charge customers who ring with issues..
    I'm done with them..

Nice one - still living in 2011? Posts are almost 9 years old - did zombie thread die!

Why has an 8 year old thread been brought up? Surely it'd be better to just create a new one?

Because you resurrected the original post from 8 years ago it has now returned to the first page, thus the reference - zombie thread :) Welcome to boards. It can be tough in here, but we generally help whatever way we can. New threads are free!
