Ok after some serious consideration i was thinking bout getting a warwick corvette standard 5 string but after having a closer look at the specs on the fame basses from music store im now having second thoughts.

    http://www.musicstorekoeln.de/en/Bass/7_14_BBASSE_59_BAS0000795-000/0/0/0/detail/musicstore.html

i mean look at that link i can get preatty much the same bass but better specs(or at least it seems to me anyway). All the woods seem the same and the pickups are made by the same company an all so should the 2 basses sound similar or what?

Most importantly though anyone out there have much experiance with fame basses?and if so what are they like to play etc.

Nothin wrong with Fame. They make some good gear at better prices. With Warwick you pay for the name to some extent. I'd seriously look at the Fame if it has roughly the same wood and pickups then you will more than likely have the exact same sound or something very close to it

Have you actually played one or is this is because of the features they offer for the price? Im really tempted by their PRS style models, esp the one with the Piezo's but recently I took delivery of a Fame cab and nearly blew my poweramp due to the time it took me to figure out the cab wasnt wired up at all :( So im kinda wary about them atm and would love a first hand account of one of their guitars!

Their cab seems good. I played their prs over there and i really really liked it. was SO SO close to buying it but bought the tokai. Trust me they are brilliant

Dont get me wrong, the cab is amazing now, I even replaced the fame logo with this rocking black and red star thing and it just blows me away, im just worried about the lack of quality checks to let a cab go through unwired. The guitar seems great though, and I am looking for something with piezo's, if only fame had a cooler sounding name and better logo! Ill prob have to strip the headstock and put my own logo down! :v:

eh i wasnt too pushed. I couldnt care whats on the guitar as such. The guitar really speaks for itself. Sure you wouldnt believe the amount of people who come up to me sayin why arent you using a marshall and les paul! the other guitarist using a lp and a marhsall 100 gets loadsa attention :-D I love my H&K's and Tokai, fernandes or whatever. So really i wouldnt let that side of it put ya off

Theres a big diff between Tokai/Gibson, Fame/PRS. Tokai are beginning to be widely recognised by the learned person as an equal instrument to Gibson or in your case, a far superior instrument, and this knowledge is spreading rapidly these days. Plus Tokai doesnt sound cheap :v:

i kno but sure at the end of the day its about the sound. A decent musician wont give a crap what ur playin, he is listenin to how it sounds. I wouldnt worry about what ppl think beecher. Anyway ppl should be showing off the quality of the underdogs like tokai and such

I totally agree with you, and I'd have no problem (infact I would love) owning a tokai, or a patrick eggle or anything like that. I just dont like the name Fame, its not a good name for an instrument imo :(

well if you really hate it i suppose but sure its not like you have to live with it. Its only a company name

Ok I played a few of these today. Was impressed. Played one for around €1050 and loved it. Then played a Fender US jazz bass for the same price and there was no comparison. Played one of the cheaper ones, I think the special edition for around €550 (without knowing the price) and thought it was not as good as the first one I played, but when I found out the price I was impressed. I would definitely recommend these basses. I'd say I will buy the one for €1050 before the end of the year.

By saying there was no comparison which was better? The jazz bass or the Fame one?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,211 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

The Fame one. Found the Fender to be a little dull... the neck was too thick for me and it just felt akward to play.

He implies the Fender was the lesser instrument.

I don't go for shop reviews to be honest. Most of them aren't set up, just taken out of the box in a northern eurpoean climate having been setup in (in the case of the Fender) California. If you know what you're doing and can set up an instrument, you can make almost anything play well. It's the small details that count, you know the Fender is going to be built like a tank and hold its resale value, it'll also be very easy to source parts for customisation, should you see fit. Does the same apply to Fame? I think not. I'm not knocking them, I'm just saying proceed with caution. Sometimes deals are too good to be true and corners have been cut somewhere.

    Edit -> Must type faster.

Well I didn't like the Fender at all so for me it's not an option. It'll be a toss up between this fame bass (which I can't find on musicstore's website) and a Warwick Corvette Proline. Similar specs, large difference in price. I didn't play any Warwick's today as they have them hung high up and I couldn't be arsed asking to play them, also I don't think they had any Corvette Prolines in stock. However I was very impressed by the Fame bass. I don't see myself ever wanting to customise it, also I live in Cologne so service will not be a problem should I buy one.

You live in cologne???Next time your in the store check out the neck through body one if you can, its the one for around 800-900 euro PLEEEEEEASE and tell me what its like, not being an ass telling you to like but im in need of help here and i cant afford even a cheap ass plane ticket.
