He played in the Galway Raceweek special game there during the galway races, my dad was at the same table for a while. He said there was not a word out of him the entire night, quite as a mouse! Thought he might get the table going with a few jokes to put people off their game but no.

Lucky he did not say anything about the "young punk" who knocked him out.

By the looks of him, I'd say you were first in the queue.

On that Hnad didnt the subtitles (I'm no gaelgoir) say he had AJ, his opponent 910 (you ocallagh I take it), and he lost to a full house on a board of AQJ? Did I read it wrong? It said Full House on the titles, I am fairly sure....... Was I seeing things?

Not a bad programme. Full of the usual mistakes though.... ''I had AJ and the flop came down AJQ. he had 9 10 for the full house and I'm out.'' ok.......

haha yeah i noticed that too. rte must have got it wrong. he lost to a straight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭ocallagh

thats the hand im talking about AJQ flop, he had AJ. I had KT for nuts. Blinds 50-100 and he lost hi entire 8k on that hand, 5K of which went in on the river which was a T.. I thought he must have hit the str8 on the river holding AK or something.. the table was in utter shock after he called!!:D

edit: sry got hand slightly wrong.. think it's correct now

surprisingly even handed, I feel like damning the players to hell just to balance it up a bit.

(damn u all to hell card junkies!);)

and didn't eoin look handsome! he'll be a great catch for some lovely girl when he's all grown up!

which reminds me, ask Declan who was on the final table of the thirty game yesterday to tell the story about the player who had the erection with 2 3 offsuit. highly inflammatory (no pun intended) but funny!

Guys - missed this last night - any word of a repeat?
I played against Tommy in the poker events leinster cup - was on the first table with him for about 3-4 hours - he's a solid player - doesn't say much - Ken Doherty was on the table also - was there a shot of that last night?

I'm almost certain that was the tourney they were playing, they were seated exactly next to each other.

Not a bad program at all, but I was very worried when they started with Donnacha and Eoin O'Dea talking about how much money they were down. Here we go again, I thought. But they balanced it out well, and Donnacha came across very well as a successful professional poker player.

good friend of mine used to be telling me stories about this "friend" of his mothers (I think they were going out pretty seriously for a while) that played professional poker in the states. And that he played in big stakes games etc etc...... I didnt really take it to heart, what with the teenage exaggeration effect and all that. At the time I only played cards for fun, and didn't really know that this exciting world of poker even existed.

We were watching the show last night (my friend has absolutely no interest in poker, and was only watching it to appease me), when hey goes "Hey..... there’s Donnacha"

This had not come up once since I started playing poker - thats with me talking poker this poker that etc etc ....

lol yeah he was FULL of crap and the only one i commented aloud about. The Cork bloke at the end backing his whimsical selections via dialabet as the credits came up was a bit of a charachter. I wonder did Donacha's sons jacks hold up loike!

Funny how they blocked Eoin's screenname on Stars and then forgot to do it later on.............:D :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,328 ✭✭✭hotspur

Cheers Dragon, I'm surprised he came across badly as he's actually very sharp, he's the director of the Rutland Centre, which is a private treatment centre in Dublin for addicts and would be the top (only really) place for gambling addicts. But generally speaking gambling addicts are considered to be a clever bunch in the addiction world, but this is relative to other addicts :)

Last question did he give any facts or figures about online poker players? (cause if he did they're based on my work and I gotta get a copy of the programme)

His screename is one of the few I know ..... reminds me of a soccer manager.

I thought the program was a bit patchy, but enjoyable all the same. It showed poker players are a different breed from those who swear at jockeys on TV in the bookies (not that I'm blameless there :( ).

I suppose no one knows if it's being repeated during the week?

    From that link:
If anyone out there is listening this is a zero sum game. We're all betting against one another and taking each others' money and meanwhile the backroom guys are taking 3% here and 3% there. And the more fools like us continue to gamble against one another online, the more these big businessmen are saying "rock on" in their $1,500 a night suites in St Lucia." - Conall Ó Móráin, Stockbroker
lol, from a stockbroker no less!
