    The Gimp is probably the best all-rounder.

    Gimp is good (and free) for anything major you want to do. Infranview is good if all you want to do is resize, crop, save as jpeg or do some other small things. It's nice and light and doesn't take ages to open like gimp. The batch options are good if you have quite a few photos.

    I find picasa2 good, I use it for adding light and for generally making the photo look that little bitten better. Do anyone know of a software either fee or to buy that can eliminate Motion blur, I find it a big problem with my camera that either my hand will jerk or the object i'm shooting will move. It would be great to be able to eliminate it as it is quite annoying. Also is adobe photoshop actually worth buying? I heard it will allow you to transform B&W image back into colour. I also have Microsoft photo editor (its quite old)and i find it to be excellent for cropping, rotating and saving.

    Any help with the motion blur would be handy. thanks

    Paint.Net = teh win!

    it's MS Paint on steroids, but if all you want is some light effects and easy printing, you cannot go wrong with picassa.

    I don't know of any program that can remove motion blur. You are expecting a program to know what is going on and what is blur and what is not. I think the thing about motion blur is that you are going to have to tackle it at source, i.e. when you actually take the pictures. Try using a mini-tripod if you can't keep the camera still. If you camera can't take a tripod then fill a freezer bag with rice and balance your camera on that. If your subject is moving then you need to use a quicker shutter speed to kill the blur, and if your exposure is too dark then use a faster film speed (ISO 400) or use a flash if neccessary.

    Hope that helps! :)

    Thanks C.J. I have tripod and intend to use it more often, However the things are, as you probably know very cumbersome. I have produced some fine photos with it already though.

    Gimpshop is the gimp with a photoshop-ish interface (not 100% stable though)
