if you're only a beginner i would say it's pretty good, you're getting what you pay for... but the fact that it has soo many extras such as FX etc... means you can play around with sounds you like, which will help you out in the future when you're wondering what pedals to buy etc...

    Looks grand to me....

Is this just a practise amp?

sort of i need a bigger amp than my current one and i have limited funds(student life sucks!)....i was hopein it would be ok to do gigs wit but i wasnt to sure

i personally wouldn't gig with that amp!!

    What's your budget?

could you not just save, and in the mean time, don't offer your amp for the backline for any gigs you play? Could you bring a bass amp or drum kit instead?

don't get me wrong, all these amps are grand for practise... but with your budget you won't really find anything suitable for gigging... Don't get me wrong, you CAN gig with them, i just wouldn't recommend it. You'd be wasting your money i think, maybe double your budget and you'd get something gig worthy, in my opinion of course.

Waiting is the sensible thing to do. You're better of in the long run saving as much as you can and getting the best all rounder(could mean a second hand valve amp or a good 100watt solid state). Its just so f**kin hard. :p

Ah screw it. Wallmark used to gig with a 10-watt Danelectro amp, and tbh, it rocked like a mother****er. The sound out of it is more important than the volume. From an engineering pov, the quieter the better - as long as the tone is good. Most of the people I know with 100 watt valve amps spend a crazy amount of time trying to get a good sound out of them at low volume. I would guess by the fact that you're considering a Behringer that a 1500ish euro amp is not on the cards in the near future. If you're getting a cheap amp anyway, the wattage is going to make very little difference as long as you're playing venues with monitors, and it's loud enough to work in practice.

Anyway, if you go secondhand you should be able to reach a good compromise between tone, volume, and cost. Maybe a line6 spider on ebay? Have a look.

Need a good PA and microphone for the amp in that case.
2nd hand is a good idea.

I just ordered a Behringer V-ampire off thomann last week for E275. It's a bit of a step up up form that v-tone but not much, it's got 120W power. I pretty much bought it on the strength of the rave reviews it's been getting everywhere, especially here http://www.harmony-central.com/Guitar/Data/Behringer/LX1_112_V_Ampire-1.html , it seems like an amazing amp, not just for the price but for the price of alot of amps alot more expensive than it. And it's a hell of a lot more versatile than most other modelling amps.

It sounds pretty okay from it's spec - but Harmony Central Reviews are worth absolutely nothing. I 've seen gear I know to be pure muck get straight tens from people there.

it's kind of hard to find oput the whole story with an amp, especially a modelling amp, from playing it for 20 minutes in a store. a lot of it's a bit of luck really.

I use a Behringer V-Ampire 120 Watt head into a Behringer Cab. Played all over the country with it and it rocks like a mother ****er. The distortion options are amazing. For the money you wont find a better amp. I bought it just to have a head and cab for gigs and its all i use now. Have recorded and gigged with it all over the place. Even bought a Vamp module to use when we are on tour overseas to keep my distortion sounds

As regards HC reviews... They are biased reviews, for example, Ive seen marshall MG reviews get straight 10's because the people reviewing bought the amp because it was 100 watts and it says marshall, they havent played decent gear to compare it with and they have probably spent hundreds on the amp so they try to convince themselves that the gear is good, they wont except that they were ripped off for a piece of crap.

I'm really beginning to warm up to the Behringer stuff. In fact, I've decided to put off the $1300 GK stack and pick up this BX4500H 450watt head and a couple of 4x10 cabs. I'm doing this for various reasons...not sure how long my band will last, the singer seems to have lost most of his range from 10 years ago (the guitarist says ALL his range!), and 1/3 the price doesn't hurt either.

I too don't place much stock in Harmony Central reviews, but I've looked in a few places and haven't seen one negative review on this head.

And the impression I got from all the reviews and comparing them to the GK reviews was that the Behringer has "warm, thumpy, endless low-end and is capable of some pop and cut as well" whereas the GK is the opposite, "cutting modern Flea/Korn sounds and is capable of some low-end as well."

And did I mention it's 450watts for a third of the price as well? :D
