I've recently got a LCD TV and have notice there is a slight delay between Picture and sound on NTL digital, its most noticeable on RTE and damn annoying, its like watching dubbed TV. My connection is by a standard SCART. Is there anyway I can improve this, ie buy a good SCART lead or is it an NTL problem

    Any thoughts??

I've never seen that. Are you sure you aren't using analogue picture with digital sound? I've had NTL digital for 2 years and have never seen that.

Are you using an av amplifier and speakers for the sound?

This can sometimes happen with cheaper amplifiers, more expensive amplifiers allow you to adjust the sound synch.

BTW this can happen with any service, not just NTL.

No, I'm using my NTL digital box connected by scart to the TV. Reading up on this lip sync delay is a known problem on Flat Panel TVs but manufacturers are denying it is a noticeable problem, see link below

Apparently it's basically due to the time taken by the image processing algorithms in LCD and plasma TV's pushing the time delay between audio and video, which is present in many broadcasting systems anyway, over a threshold at which it becomes noticeable. I've heard that some higher end TV's have a configurable delay on the audio to compensate for this.

What make is your LCD TV?
Philips had issues with some models.I've also suffered from it on my stb and it's connected to a standard 14" tv.
It comes and goes, sometimes it gets really bad.

There are some channels on ntl digital that seem to suffer from it more than others. City channel is one of the worst. Thing is though that the LCD and Plasma TV's add a bit more delay on top of what's (imperceptibly) already there due to delays introduced during the broadcasting process, and as soon as it goes above that threshold *bang* you suddenly start noticing it. There's a psychological effect that then kicks in which means you then start deliberately looking out for it, and channels where the combined effect was previously unnoticeable becomes annoying too.
