Question for Everyone

With the GMIT date provisionally booked, I thought it appropriate to raise the issue of the individual league tables.

Two years ago there were only five shoots and the scores from each counted, ie best 5. Last year there were 6 shoots and the scores from the best 5 counted. This year there will almost certainly be 7 shoots. My question is this: should the best five be counted again as in years gone by or should a person only be allowed to lose one of their worst scores/miss one IV?

In relation to the rules we drew up last year, they say the following:
    IV Rules wrote:
    (3) In each category, people’s final score is the sum of their scores from each competition. Minus their worst score. Missing a competition automatically gives a score of zero for that competition.
That would obviously mean that if the seven IVs go ahead this year then the individual league would be based on best 6 scores. If we are going to change this system or set it in stone as above I just think it would be best to do it now rather then later when things may be closer.

remember that is ment to just apply to individual scores. Teams have no excuses all the competitions count

Scores should be based on the way it was last year i.e. all scores count, minus the worst one, with more comps people have to miss comps for various different reasons beyond their control and it shouldn't affect your total. With more comps there is always gonne be someone that cant go and it shouldn't be a penalty that the dates don't work out becausae it could work out that someone who had been leading the league all year could end up not winning becauyse they couldn't attend for say personal reasons or even something as simple as a driving test. Not Fair. Makes the competition more interesting
because the extra competition can make a big difference and it sets the scene for a really good last intervarsity of the year.

I think it should be your best five scores counting. Between all different things like exams, part time jobs, personal stuff, injuries, equipment problems on the day, it might be a good idea to have two comps to discard.

Maybe have a vote on it at the meeting on saturday. There'll be no one there from carlow but I could give our vote to someone before then.

I vote for all scores minus worst one. :) At least, that's the way my league table at UCD website works. If we start removing more than one, where do we stop? If we fix number at, say 5, then what do we at seasons with 5 or less competitions?

I agree with MICS.. All but the worst.

I reckon it could all get messy if we tried to pin down a number. If in the future we had more IV's during the year or if we lost some permanently there'd just be hassle. All scores minus worst gets my vote.

Seems opinion here is fairly close to unanimous, but as span pointed out it might be worth putting it to a vote on Saturday just so everyone gets a say.
I have to agree though, the rule as it stands seems to be the best way to cover all possibilities for further expansion of the Intervarsity League.

I supposed it does make more sense to have all scores minus the worst.

I was just thinking of myself really:p . Had a crappy score in DCU and I'm missing the competition this weekend:D

Ok, at the meeting after the Maynooth Intervarsity we will have a small vote.

1 representive from each college can vote.
