It is likely they are talking about the double glazed unit in your sitting room window. I did this many years ago by remove the rubber seals on the inside of the window and then removed the beading from the outside . The unit will simply lift out of the frame. Giving you room to move the couch in.

It will depend on the type of window you have but most recent uPVC windows have removeable glazing units.

You will neen the help of at least two others as these units are extremely heavy and any inappropriate contact with the ground/floor could effect the seal on the unit and reduce it effectiveness.

Alternatively contact a double glazing company and they will remove the unit and replace it in minutes.

What the odds on synchronising them delivering the couch and you getting help removing the glazing unit ?

The place where you bought the couch should have the dimensions of it which you can measure against the doorway. I was dubious about my couch fitting but it clearly said on the leaflet that it would fit inside a door larger than whatever the measurement was. When they came to deliver it the delivery men first of all refused to take it up past the first floor, even though i'd been told in the shop that if i supplied two people to help, they would carry it up to the third floor.

So then after persuading Mr. "I dont do stairs" Delivery man to bring it up, he then insisted it wouldn't fit through the door until myself and the two other people turned it at an odd angle and in it went.
