    Is my FTV card dead?

I had not used it for a couple of months it was just sitting in my second reciever which was not plugged in. I turned it on this evening and alll the BBC's and ITV's work fine but Ch5 and CH4 are displaying a message with a phone number for me to ring to activate it. If I remove the card I get the message no sky card is inserted. I have tried it in another
second reciever and it is still the same.

Leave it in your powered Sky box for 24 hours (max)

Common issue, just leave it in.

Jeez. We need a sticky for Tony's complaints!

    Where will it end?

Really? 2906 posts how many were advice and how many were complaints about repetitive posts? If you notice I was agreeing with Greenman, do we need a sticky for his complaints or anyone else who comments on this topic?

    :D...

The "where it will end" comment is more that we cant have a sticky for every simple problem. We dont want the half of the main page just stickys. As I said in another thread, the lack of the search facility means we do have repeditive questions. Posters like The Muppet might not be regular posters here, and unlike me as a mod or you, Tony or Greenman, don't read every single post here.

I dont have the time to do an proper FAQ. If someone wanted to do it, then approach me or the other mods, and we'll do it.

But a lot of our current problems will go once the search returns.

Sorry for asking what appears to be a noobs question but I have never see it raised here before as I only dip in and out of this forum. I did look over the first two pages of thread to see if there was anything on this before I posted the question. If search were enabled I would have used it.

I don't really see the problem about the same question being asked . The forum could be loaded with stickies that nobody reads but would it be effective. IMO it will only clutter up the place with lots of stickies or if your going to do it in one stickie that would certainly be too long to be effective as human nature is such that no one will read pages of a stickie before posting their question..

Thanks again for the help DMC. You were spot on.

Well what i've noticed is that if the same question is repeated it gets less and less of a response as time goes on so someone new to the forum may not get the info they innocently request. This is why most websites have FAQ's which save everyone time. The RTE not available stickie is a case in point, it has proved useful to many here and proves this forum is the top place for information. All's I want to do is make sure it stays that way. As Damo says hopefully when the search returns it will help.

Maybe some of the guys who visit digital spy might have some input on this.

It took all of 7 minutes for DMC to reply to my post so that was not the case in this instance. However as I said I only dip in and out here so you would be more aware of the issue.

Maybe a trouble shooting sub forum would be a possibility with dedicated threads for various recurring topics. That would keep the clutter of stickies off the main forum and provide a resource of information for the community in general.

No disrespect Damo but this cenus http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054852757
seems to have got added to the stickies, maybe when the cenus is over you might consider the FTV sticky.

Gotta advertise, man. That sticky will go in a few weeks. The Census is open for a month.

I like the idea, The Muppet, the silent ICDG sub-forum might be a good home for all popular theads (that idea, though, means that you would have to widen the search) Or a website attached to the ICDG.

Sometimes, its the not-so regulars who can look in and see how to fix a problem :D

I dont know exactly when the search will be back, ask an admin on the Feedback forum if needs be.

But personally, time is lacking. I am open to volunteers. :)

Granted, you have indicated the overhead of managing one of these FAQs... but here's my 2 cents..

I run a support forum for SMS Wireless developers (http://smsforum.net/smf). The number of daily posts is nowhere even close to say boards.ie but then the focus is very specific to a certain areas etc.

To make my job easier, I use a read-only FAQ board (http://smsforum.net/smf/index.php?board=12.0) on which I have posted topics detailing common Q&A.. the net effect is that is users can read the content of the FAQ board posts.. but cannot reply to them or post their own topics there. As new commonly requested stuff comes up, I will often add some tidied up summary of the previous posts. So it remains a concise set of Q&A topics. The bulletin software already had the required functionality to stop regular users from posting to selected boards.

If we had a FAQ sub-board with closed topics like.. "Tuning in extra BBC.. "UK FTV Cards" etc.. and not endless threads going back years with the same stuff posted over and over to them.. we may find a much better outcome.
