Ok, PPP.com are running a christmas tournie with a difference. I'll explain the details when all the boxes are checked and agreements agreed.

However I've been put in charge of the tournie structure and the prize breakdown. Paddys are very keen that this be a player friendly tournie as its meant to be a gift for xmas for us (with money added etc).

So I asked the boss could this forum agree the structure and we'd use that and he's all on for that! Cool or what?

So, we have two days (Saturday and Sunday) and we can set the chips, blinds and levels as we see fit. We can also define the payout structure (its a 500 euro freezeout with a max of 120 players.

I guess we should do the prize structure as a number of percentages rather then amounts as thats easier to adjust to the actual prizepool on the day. The structure needs to be such that we can reasonably expect to be finished by 8 on the second day.

Anyone wanna kick this off and help me do my work for free? :):)
Seriously though, this is a nice idea, to have the players themselves define the game they want to play. I'm curious what we'll come up with cos there are a lot of bright brains on this forum.

    DeV.

I have a few suggestions. How about starting stack of 8k and the following blind levels:

    Day One:
    Blinds Time(Minutes)
    25-50 25
    50-100 25
    75-150 25
    100-200 25

    Break

    150-300 25
    200-400 25
    300-600 30
    400-800 30

    Break

    500-1000 45
    800-1500 45

    End Day One

    Day Two:

    1000-2000 45
    1500-3000 45
    2000-4000 45

    Break

    3000-6000 45
    4000-8000 45
    5000-10000 45

    Break

    .
    .
    .
    .
    .

Maybe an extra level before the end of day one. I think this sort of structure should allow for a lot of play imo. I don't know about the payout structure yet but I just thought I'd give my input on the tourney structure anyway.:D

500 euro freezeout doesnt seem very friendly to me :)...bit out of my bankroll im afraid, any chance of something similiar for the smaller bankrolls? e.g 100 - 150 $ freeze out?..what dates are we talking bout here, mayb i come into some money :), as for structure card sharks seems fairly good.. i think there should be a booby prize though :) (for me)

I'd suggest Pokerstars blind levels adding in a 150-300 level.
If it's a live game you could skip the first 2 levels to help with the chips you need (but raise the starting stacks proportionately). So that would be starting with 25/50. Introducing antes at level 5 as well as the extra level at level 6.

Blind levels as long as possible and starting stacks as big as possible obviously tailored to work with a 2 day game.

75,000 chips, 4 hour blind levels as follows:

    25/50
    50/100
    75/150
    100/200
    125/250
    150/300
    175/350
    200/400
    225/450
    250/500
    275/550
    300/600
    Freeze the blinds.

    Thanks Tom.

I like the idea of the blinds rising slowly and with deep stacks. That should eliminate the chance that the tourney turns into fold-or-allin cuz the blinds are so high... but freezing at 300/600 with 75,000 starting? Is it just me or is this madness! Heads-up could go on forever

The penny drops. The more i look at marq's structure the more it seems ridiculously slow. egg on my face :v:

Lol... thanks Marq. The game should end sometime just before the WSOP 06. Perfect timing!

I like Cardshark202's suggestion but I think we could slow them down by adding antes and not raising the blinds every level. (you know what I mean).

We always complain that something is wrong with structures so I thought this might be fun to control a big game.

AK47 there will be qualifiers on PPP.com I guess MTT and possibly $50 STT's.

Sorry, I just realised I didn't mention that this is an offline tournie in the Sporting Emporium in Dublin. I'm awaiting confirmation of all the details so this isnt an official announcement (I'm sure Karl or Pitboss will do that soon!)

How about something similar to pokerevents structures in their supersatellites, but maybe with 10k starting? I think their blind increases are good though, and the antes are always proportional to the blinds too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭ocallagh

cardsharks structure looks good. i think it's important to have relatively quick blinds early on compared to later in the tournament. so much time in a tournament is wasted when the blinds are ridiculously low IMO. I'd prefer a bit more play around the 150-300, 200-400 level. I'd suggest increasing the times from 150-300 to 45 mins and introducing a running ante.

  • Business & Finance Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 32,387 Mod ✭✭✭✭DeVore

Aye, I would agree with you Niall, I would prefer relatively speedy blinds to start with (25 mins?) and then extend to 45 mins for 150/300 until 500/1000 and then maybe bring them back to 30 mins to avoid going on until xmas.

What about the payout structure? In fact, I'll start a completely different thread about that because I think its going to be a doozy of an argument between the expontentialist and those who lean more towards the linear. :)

Do you have a date in mind tom?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,679 ✭✭✭Daithio

25 minutes is way too fast tom considering all of the sporting emporium regular tourneys are 30 mins. Maybe start with 30 and move up to 40.

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 21,254 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dub13

Can you buy into this...?if so and its max 120 players it will sell out fast.IMO

You will be able to buy into this, some tickets will be reserved for online qualifiers. The date is looking like something mid Dec, Hector. Again I want to confirm all that with Paddys but I also wanted to involve the forum early on before any of these structure decisions were made. I think its terrific we are getting such fine control on the game but y'all know I'm kinda cuckoo about community stuff.

I take your point about the 30 minute levels. I'll have to see exactly how long we will have, I think its from 4pm until 3am-ish and the next day from 3pm until 8pm ish.
So a total of close to 16 hours inc breaks.

I am highly tempted to steal , I mean, be inspired by PokerEvents structure as I felt it was very good. I think it needs a tweak or two (there were one or two level jumps that drew a sharp intake of breath from the remaining players). At the time I didnt mind since I was chip leader and wanted all the small stacks to start squeaking as I had the chips to take the risk in hovering them up, but I wouldnt want to have been a small stack :)
By and large I thought it was excellent though.

We can always do something funky towards the end like not increasing the blinds if it puts two players under 10bb's. We could use that sort of logic if we wished!

I normally go with average stack being 20bb

I dont think it would be fair to reward short stacks even more than the structure is already doing

ps: yeah, thats probably a better idea Oscar, I was really trying to get the idea of conditional level increases into peoples minds rather then simply timed ones....

    My suggestion would run thus:

    A 10,000 chip starting stack.
30 minute blinds until the ante kicks in, 40 minutes thereafter:

    25/50 (75)
    50/100 (150)
    75/150 (225)
    100/200 (300)
    150/300 (450) 2.5hrs

    150/300/25 (675)
    200/400/25 (825)
    250/500/25 (975)
    300/600/50 (1350)
    400/800/50 (1650)
    500/1000/75 (2275)
    600/1200/100 (2700) 7hrs

    800/1600/100 (3300)
    1000/2000/150 (4350)

    Take in Pony Chips 8.5hrs

    1200/2400/200 (5400)
    1500/3000/200 (6300)
    2000/4000/300 (8700)
    2500/5000/300 (10200)
    3000/6000/500 (13500)
    4000/8000/500 (16500)
    5000/10000/800 (22200)

    Take in 100 chips 13.5hrs

    6000/12000/1000 (27000)
    8000/16000/1000 (33000)
    10000/20000/1500 (43500)

    Take in 500 chips 16hrs

    12000/24000/2000 (54000)
    15000/30000/2000 (63000)

Looks ridiculous, but as you can see from the hour total, would fit well into a two day event. It's highly unlikely that the upper blind levels would be hit anyway, if you only change blinds to reflect the average stack from the last two or three (three) tables on. The numbers in brackets are the total amount that it would cost a player in blinds in antes per round, based on a nine handed table (which should be easily accomodated), and go up or down depending on how many players are at the table. I think 8 hours of poker per day, plus breaks every two hours and a dinner break each day is more than fair.

I like Mark's suggestion better than mine. That seems like a nice structure alright. It should allow for a lot of play. I hope the emporium get a tourney clock like the fitz as I much prefer to have an exact idea of when the blinds are going to be increased an so on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,924 ✭✭✭Fatboydim

If it's a two day Tourney in the Sporting Emporium surely time would be less of a factor.?

My opinion would be to try and get as close as possible to a WPT - WSOP style structure.

    Therefore 10k starting chips.

    40min blinds until first break.

    Then one hour blinds...

Maybe capping the blinds at some stage is a good idea too... So that at no point would it become a crapshoot. For example say there are 2million chips in play then come the final 10, chip average should be around 200,000 therefore blinds could be frozen at 10k 20k

I think this is a terrible idea. Keeping the average stack at 15BB or whatever guideline you choose would be much better.

Any chance of any offline sats in the West - I know Tom and Tony R organised something in the past. And Paul R would never forgive you if you didn't. [How's his sponsorship deal ? :D ]

All it takes to run a Sat is 10 players with 50 notes in their hands. I'm sure Tony R can make that happen all on his own down there!

Hoping for something a little bit bigger than that. Not sure how successful the event was that you both organised – because I missed out last time – didn’t hear about it until too late. But I’ll have words with Tony at the weekend.

    Hi all,

I have altered Marq's structure to fit into 1 day. I reckon we have about 12-14 hours max to work with starting at 3pm.

    I am proposing this:

    8,000 starting stack.

    25/50 30mins
    50/100 30mins
    75/150 30mins
    100/200 30mins
    150/300 30mins

    Take in pony chips
    15 minute break

    200/400 40mins
    300/600 40mins
    4000/800 40mins
    500/1000 40mins

    30 minute break - food

    600/1200 40mins
    800/1600 40mins
    1000/2000 40mins
    1500/3000 40mins
    2000/4000 40mins
    3000/6000 40mins
    4000/8000 40mins
    5000/10000 40mins

it all depends on numbers but i think this should give everyone enough room for manuvore and still get us out by sunrise.

    comments please?
