got a question :P. will the x800gto 256mb make much the difference to what i have chosen? cause i want to keep costs to a minimal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭masteroftherealm

Yup the GTO2 is an amazing card I would wholly reccoment it. It overclocks to a card thatll cost you 500quid.

Ya read the bits bout the DFI and the Opterown

Your list there has a VIA motherboard. Personally I hate all things VIA, I think that their drivers suck and that they're unstable, from experience with a few PCs. Get something nForce 4.

kk thx and the opteron 144, is there any risks at all to be takin with this? are they hard to overclock? would they get more speed with some 120mm fans in the case? (forgot to say this pc may have to be quite)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭masteroftherealm

No very easy to do dont worry. Well all heolp you.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭g5hn710m4xpdwy

yeah thats the problem.its for my friend. he doesnt know an awful lot about hardware plus we are only 13 ;-/ if it aiont easy to do then i will stick with the one i have. unless you can get me not to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭masteroftherealm

Very easy seriously. Firstly even if your not gonna overclock that chip is faster and cheaper.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭g5hn710m4xpdwy

the opreton is 1.8ghz and the 3200+ is 2.00ghz. ah well u have to knowlage kk thx. just curious how could i overclock it? would having the fans oc it on air?)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭masteroftherealm

But the opteron has 1mb Cache and a better COU core. OCing is done in the BIOS where ya just tel it to go faster.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭g5hn710m4xpdwy

sounds confusing but kk thx for your help so far. will the motherboard you gave me support that processor? (sry for all my stupid questions but i am learning and i dont want my mate to get the peices to find they dont work together:rolleyes: )

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭masteroftherealm

Have you ever built a coputer before?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭g5hn710m4xpdwy

i am just saving him some time by selecting parts and learning from you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,141 ✭✭✭masteroftherealm

kk thanks for taking time to help me here. will that power supply do or should i get a differnt brand? or more power?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,280 ✭✭✭commited

Swap the PSU for an opteron 144 or 146.

    Avoid that PSU.
    Try this instead:
    AKASA Powersupply ATX/EPS 12V 400W 120mm Fan, SATA, 24/20pin €68 http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=314644&cks=PRL

Consider splashing the savings on this:
    Samsung 19" LCD Syncmaster 913N TCO03 Monitor, Silver, 8ms €319
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=306235&cks=PRL

    Get the X800GTO2 from overclockers.co.uk

Also, if you can afford it, switch that motherboard for the DFI :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭g5hn710m4xpdwy

ok thx. well i have already gone for the operton144 and the X800GTO2. just forgot to edit post. and na i think that monitor will do for his purposes :) . and i will take a look at that psu. oh yeah i have also changed the mobo to a dfi one. with the power spply is there a reason to down grade? or just the price?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,280 ✭✭✭commited

The samsungs picture quality is much much better :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,763 ✭✭✭g5hn710m4xpdwy

ok i have decided to go for that monitor. but what i ment was the power supply. is there a reason to downgrade to a 400watt?. and can u get the x800gto2 from komplett or must it be from overclockers.co.uk?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,280 ✭✭✭commited

gto2 is not available from Komplett!

The Akasa supply is better quality imho. If you want more power - Hiper PSU ATX 580W Black, Type-R, HPU-4K580 Dual Fan, Silent,SLI, 20/24pin - €122
    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=309565&cks=PRL

if you do decide to go for the Hiper R-Type PSU instead of getting it from komplett, have a look in PC world if there is one near you, i got that same PSU for €99 last weekend in PC world in waterford :) that's another €23 saved for you :)
