Vegas Nights Rake

Well my last thread got side-tracked....................lol

Things got a bit heated in some replys and I don't want to get ino that with anyone. However I'm just going to put it as I see it.

When people go to a pub tournament and the organisers say they are taking 15% rake most people will asume it's 15% of the total money taken including entrance fees, rebuys and top ups.

As DubTony said when people go to a casino there is an entrance fee and then usually the reg fee is a % of the entrance fee.

There is a difference between the two and I guess the way I worded it I used a combination of the two. I did't do it intentionally to misslead people (I did post the facts and figures).

In future the wording should be either:
    Entry E25 & one rebuy OR top up @ E25 each.......(Rake 20%)
    Or
    Entry E20 (+E5 reg) & one rebuy OR top up @ E20 (+E5 reg)......(rake 25%of entry fee).

    Coments please (but no agro).

Rathmines last night went well.....only 21 runners but a good night. I cut the following from a post in a different thread.

Played in this last night - only 21 runners but very enjoyable I thought. The set-up seemed professional, nice enough tables, pretty crappy cards (until the final table, as someone else noted above), ok blinds structure. Once the final table formed, the prize pool and Vegasnights' take was clearly explained to all, very transparent. Room used was extremely cold, but this was the bar's fault and not the event organisers. The fact I went out on the bubble in 4th was wholy my fault

So if someone gets a rebuy/topup and spends 50euro, Vegasnights takes 10euro?

Personally I think you should say its "Buyin 20 + 5 reg, one rebuy or topup @ 20 + 5 reg."

The last argument was nothing to do with VN's rake. It was to do with people who are incapable of reading what I write. But lets not go there eh?
VN seem to run a decent tournament and if you charged 100% rake I don't care so long as its clear before I travel and turn up.

I think the 20+5 and 20+5 is the best way to as percentages clearly confuse some people.
That way there's no way that anyone can mistake it.

For reasons I can't adequately explain I dislike rake on rebuys, don't ask me why but take it as feedback that I don't think they are popular with the players. It *should* be as it rewards the tight/good players but some people see it as the house getting greedy rather then just spreading the rake around.

btw PPP charge rake on rebuys.

20+5 and 20+5 is the clearest way of putting it.

I see what you mean............The house needs a certain rake and instead of each player paying an equal amount of money to the house some people(those who rebuy/top up) pay more to the house than others( those who don't rebuy/yop up).

I'm open to sugestions.......... I think E5 reg is the max reg fee acceptable on top of E20 entry however E5 per player will not cover the costs for the night.

If the entry fee is raised (say E50) then the reg fee could be raised to a price that would cover costs(say E10). Then if there is a rebuy/top up the house would not need to charge reg on the rebuy/top up.

The problem is I'm trying to make poker tournaments accesable and afordable to as many people as possible. I'm tying to provide an afordable quality game in peoples local. I thought of E50 F/O including E8 reg but this will not cater for beginners or not so experienced players...........they need the option to rebuy.

The E20 +E5 entry with one rebuy/top up @ E20 +E5 is the best balance I came up with.

    I'm open to sugestions.............

Maybe adding an odd F/O to the schedule from time to time would be good?. There are many players myself included that dislike rebuys so these players would be more inclined to play the F/O's. F/O's would still cater for beginners(beginners will learn more in F/O's because they will learn quicker to be more selective and not to play so loose;) ).

We run a tournament every friday night in The Anglers Rest (Chapelizod). The tournament is varied from week to week. As a guideline the max spend is around E45 which usually includes E7 reg fee. Last week was short handed one rebuy/top up, week before- F/O, week before- scalp, week before double chance.

Most fridays have about 50 players.

There are plenty of sng's when players are out of tourny. Most sng's are either E10 or E20. We do not take any rake on these.

This friday is Double chance E45 including E7 reg.

If you have to make a certain amount of money from the night then spreading it over the buying and rebuys is the best way. I certainly prefer it as I don't intend rebuying in these events.

Yeah, I play VN tournaments in The Submarine on a Wednesday most weeks and I like the new tournament format, 1 rebuy or topup, usually only get the one rake from me, don't intend on buying back and usually don't top up unless things are drastic.
