Sorry derek, but heading riddlers on saturdays/to the lodge on tuesdays/to the stables on friday night for pints with willie nolan and kelly doesn't count as engaging with the ordinary joe soap student.

ULSU may be out of touch with you, but unless you come and tell us how to get in touch with you, the problem will never be resolved.

For all the issues and problems ULSU has had this year, it has never been more in touch with students.

This is the first year in ULSU's recent history where officers (not for election or campaign purposes) have left the building with the specific intent of talking to students about their concerns.

Whatever boards.ie says, I know that my team has made more effort than any in the recent past to heal that disconnect, just because we're not meeting you doesn't mean we're not meeting ordinary students.

I think you're going to get alot of flak for that post

Love to actually organise and get more music/comedy gigs into the college and not have that exclusive to RAG week as it seems of recent years.

    Plus a bazillion to this!!

Shouldn't the SU be the ones making the effort?

    .

This part is baffling to say the least. A year in which there was 1,000 less votes in the SU elections, widespread condemnation of the SU for its largely unprofessional and petty attitude to student opinion and a medical fees debacle that stank of the same underhand political movement that's blighted this country for years.

This is the first year in ULSU's recent history where officers (not for election or campaign purposes) have left the building with the specific intent of talking to students about their concerns.

You say this as if it's an achievement. I assumed this would be a given considering you're paid to represent students

I think this little monologue perfectly sums up the attitude and ignorance of the SU. I've said it from the start but no body would listen to me. The ULSU could not care less for the student body, and are only looking after their own hides to get a pay check. It's all our fault, they have been perfect representatives - honestly can you even believe it?. It's frankly appalling and extremely embarrassing to see such deluded works from the SU president. Not one iota of acceptance that the students union was on the point of collapse this year, not one admission that every candidate for this years election ran a campaign based on 'change'.

I honestly think it's time we changed the rules for candidates rerunning and doing musical chairs in the SU building. If it wasn't for a handful of votes we'd have 66% of the SU team as repeaters as opposed as just the one.

I think one run is enough, and three is much too many. It breeds complacency, arrogance, superiority, cynicism and a massive sense of entitlement.

The SU has been a let down this year in every way possible and the sooner this crowd is permanently gone from the college the better.

The SU got involved in elections this year, something it hasn't done before. If it weren't for the SU there would have been hundreds more who wouldn't hav bothered. that's backed up by timing stats of turnout after myself, Aoife, Tara and Daragh knocked on doors in Kilmurry and Plassey, walked around with placards in Kemmy, Health Science, Schuman, Library, to remind people to have their say. The Union couldn't physically have done any more.

In previous years the candidates promoted the elections, being honest, the only campaign that got out of the main part of the campus to places like the Kemmy, Health Science and Schrodinger was Paddy Rockett's.

People didn't know there was an election on FFS.

The lower voter turn-out I would affiliate to the poor campaign by the candidates. Most candidates didn't seem to really care about being elected and it seemed like it didn't bother them if they weren't elected.

However, an email circulated on March 20th, 4 days AFTER campaigning started isn't exactly a marked improvement.

Emails should have been sent on the night of the 15th/morning of the 16th with the names of the candidates running and how to vote.

I would have said that it was a given too.... The failures of the previous sabbats I guess. I would just make sure that this is included into the handover document/period and that the incoming sabbats know they should encourage people to vote.

I actually feel out of touch with the SU. The sabbats just feel distant this year. I haven't heard more of a justification for students to hate the SU than they do this year. I admit the shop closures were necessary, however lots of things that happened this year were unprofessional, unnecessary and controversial. I feel like if I had to choose the best sabbat, I would be choosing the one that didn't cause the most controversy or the least unprofessional.

I thknk that's a fair assessment, the sabbaticals don't run the election process however, we just assist in it.

I know there are issues, but they are not issues that are hugely beyond what would have been experienced in previous years.

You had your chance to stand and try to make changes to the Union, you had the chance to give students a choice between those who already held office and yourself, but you decided not to run, I think its a bit rich for you to come on here with the same moaning when you choose not to do anything about it when you had the chance.

Can you post this in Irish please kiddo, finding it hard to understand.

Anyway, there actually isn't a logical argument to your post.

I criticised Derek Daly's campaigns in office, and I criticised his attitude and the attitude of his associates. How exactly would me running for election change the attitude of previous candidates - no logic there

I scrutinised all candidates running a campaign this year, very much so. In fact I probably gave the most significant critical appraisal of any candidate. After doing so I realised it wasn't necessary for me to run as a candidate this year. Therefore I am entitled to moan about it because I did do something about it.

Walk on kiddo, there is absolutely zero worth to that thinly veiled personal attack of a post.

You don't know anything about me. You don't know what I'm made of or just how much I'm capable of. You don't know where I've come from nor where
I'm heading. You know nothing of my highs or my lows. You don't know how fast I am, how strong I am, how resilient I am.You haven't got a clue what breakfast cereal I eat, what fragrance I wear or who I'm dating. You don't even know my name.
    But you will

There is a very good reason for that, I don't know anything about you because despite all your talk, you did not stand for election, and untill you do more than complain on boards, I have no reason to give a second thought to what you are made of or where you are going, It all stinks of childish self agrandisment to me.

look at derek, pretending he doesn't care, pretending every post that tarnishes his future political name doesn't boil his blood. It's a strange coincidence the increase in posts ninty9er has had on this forum since someone put up a poll about his presidency.

Tá brón orm. I suddenly regret ignoring Irish class, studying maths, science and english down the back while the other children did 'comhrá' and recite lines of ancient Irish nonsense about children turning into swans and getting hit by hurley balls.
