Stupid is as Stupid does ...

Anyways I was working on a poster image today and I installed a heap of fonts, but in doing so, I've corrupted some standard fonts some how. Font Book won't launch, and other apps like X Chat also crash and some web pages are displaying odd.

So where do I find the fonts to remove the bastards ? Or how do I restore my old fonts ?

First thing I'd try is to repair permissions -

Macintosh HD / Applications / Utilities / Disk Utility

Select the drive on which OS X is on, and then click
    "Repair Permissions".

    May help...

Depends where you installed them - possibly in

    ~/Library/Fonts

    or

    /Library/Fonts

either way, look in those locations and remove the offending ones. As far as reinstalling the system fonts and fontbook, go to versiontracker and look for something called Pacifist, which allows you to install certain parts of the system again. Other than that... it sounds messy to me. Maybe a reinstall would be safest.

I managed to fix this ..

1] Opened up the list of fonts that I had downloaded.
    2] Searched for ttf.
3] Removed all of the offending ones.

    thanks for the tips lads
