this morning i had a booking with sky to install a new dish decoder etc, I had booked a free installation - free dish & free decoder,
He then tells me a charge of €35 for a phone line that has to be stapled to the skirting boards and running under the carpet( this WILL envolve getting a carpet fitter back into fix my carpet) probably another €35
Anyhow i tell him Im not paying any money and he walks out - Gone!!
he leaves me in the letterbox my sky card -
Basically i wanna know if this is anygood to me if i continue to pay for it - can it be used in another decoder or is it a waste of time keeping it
    Any suggestions would be grateful

its no good to you unless you want to buy a digibox and dish and get it installed.

Sounds to me like your 'installer' was on the make for a bit of beer money (a free installation should, as the name implies, be free).

    I'd complain to Sky.

Its free standard installation which is not the same thing.

ty tony - a free standard install only requires 5 metres of cable where as mine needed an extra 3 m, so he reckons he can charge,
shame gotta wait anoher 10 days .
    ah well sh1t happens

Wait, I've bought digiboxes many a time as replacements for people, doesn't the box COME WITH the phone line in the box?

I can understand your frustration but without seeing the exact nature of the work involved its impossible to say whether he was overcharging or not. Not defending him by any means but this is what happens when sky pay levels fall below what I would consider right for a good quality install.

It comes with a short lead which is only useful if theres a phone socket next to the tv.

OK, at least I'm not hallucinating. I've never opened the wee baggie it comes in to see what size it is, as usually I don't need anything more from the cardboard box than the digibox and the remote

Nice packing job on the last replacement I got, btw - initally thought you'd forgotten the other item I'd ordered, didn't think it'd be inside the digibox box ;)

My pleasure. Incidentally the lead that comes with the box has a BT plug on it so next to useless outside the UK.

That shows I've -never- opened the bag then, I assumed it'd be RJ11 on boxes sold here.

masteire, call sky again to rebook your install, buy a telephone cable yourself and run it from yuor telephone point to the tv for when your installer arrives. He will connect the cable to your tv to activate your sub and leave. Then you simply remove the telephone cable. You will only need to connect it to order box office. Telephone connection is only a forced requirment if you have multiroom.

i have rebooked it for next thur week and have been to buy the extra phone cable needed to have it ready for Mr Sky boy when he returns, I know its not sky representitives calling to install but i do know this guy was an ass
if only everyone had manners life would be so less complicated.
