Quick, probably stupid question re: suits

    OK, I need a tux.

I got a good deal on a new tux and went for it, thinking the cost of two rentals will almost pay it off. Bought it online, its on the way as we speak. Alll I got for now is a description and a photo.

Being a man, I never even thought to check if it was double or single breasted - a tux is a tux, right?

Showing it to the girlfriend, she noticed this straight away and was quick to point out that double breasted will not suit me. For the record I am of medium height (5' 9"), and broad chested. I would need to be taller for the DB suit to work, ihho.

So - the stupid question: Would it be possible to alter a Double breasted suit to make a single breasted one?

There isn't any way to alter a double breasted jacket to turn it into a single breasted one without really destroying the jacket as it is. Don't be too hasty on thinking it will not suit you. As a general rule, if you are short or of heavy build, a double breasted jacket will make you look a little shorter and fatter, but it does depend on your build. For slim or relatively med builds, a double breasted jacket will work just fine.

    Thanks guys.

Will try on suit anyway when it arrives. It might not look so bad, as you say hardtrainer.

I always equate DB with a more formal style, so for a tux it might work.
