The bottom of the frame of my back door is rotten. The rot goes up one side about a foot in measurement and the bottom hinge is on this area. Can I just replace the affected area or do I need to replace the whole side of the frame.

Well if half your leg is Gang-Green you would not chop the whole lof of:) .Maybe best before any work under took is take door off hinges first.Saw off rotten wood and replace best you can. Before you put new piece on maybe give it a primer.

    Hi,

To add to what mad m said, it might be a good idea to line up the door with a new hinge before you take it off the hinges, that way the refit will be into the old frame which based on the size of the frame you have left should be more secure than hanging the door off the new piece.

Depending on your skills you could fit a hinge in the centre and one as low as you can.
