Ok I am losing (a bit) but it is great fun! A bit of a gamble but there is some strategy to it.

Roundtower seems to have the knack although he did just take a big hit. How can you fold any Badugi when someone has drawn cards all the way?

I'm losing my bollocks! I was up about $600 but I finished down for the day in badugi. You will have to fold a badugi quite a lot. Some people don't bluff and don't bet without a badugi, which means you have to fold your Q- and K- badugis, especially if you bet and they raise.

In principle you never have the odds to draw to a badugi heads up, because you are only getting 3-1 on your money. In practice you may have implied odds both in and out of position.

I was down a couple of hundred but now wiped that out and up a couple :D

I left it in frustration but will come back. Just seemed every time I had a T someone else had a 9, every time I had a 9 someone else had an 8, and so on in the big pots. If anyone wants to play Omaha on my table right about now, I'll probably pay you off.

I have found that standing pat after round 2 when everybody is drawing wins a lot of pots.

i've noticed you playing that trick so i've done the same a few hands and it works likea treat!

basically you're betting 16 into a 32 pot and they call 16 for a draw. if you stand pat with aything, you're going to win that pot 3 out of 4 times with a 16 bet after the last draw

I noticed you doing that as well, but never called you. I've done it, but not nearly as much as you.

I'm sure some people will catch on to this and there will be a lot of re-bluffing happening in this game.

I've a feeling it will turn into 'who's got the biggest balls' poker soon once people catch on.

Folks don't panic. If, like me, you have no clue what these people are talking about then worry not. We can always try google.

Badugi is a four card triple draw lowball game where a hand needs to be of 4 different suits. The best hand is A234 - 4 different suits. When it goes to showdown and no-one has a Badugi hand - four different suits then the best 3 card Badugi hand wins. It is played as limit or more popularly - Half pot limit.

Quick Q about Badugi, does Ac2c3s4h only count as a 3 card badugi???

Yes would be Ac 3s 4h 3 card Badugi should take down most non-4 card Badugi pots.

Ah, I see, it looks like a pretty good game, I was watching a table the other day, might have to play it soon, although is it worth moving money into PPP for it??? I'm not sure....

He has caught better Badugi's countless times when people have been pat with a worse one.

This used to be played in Dublin and if you start playing it in the Fitz the sharks will appear. I am sure people like Charlie Power are already cleaning up on Tribeca

I'm not sure who's cleaning up, it's a small enough player pool. There are some people clearly losing, but no obvious winners. There seem to be a load of different rules both for hand ranking and betting, so previous experience mightn't count for all that much. Of course experience playing any draw/lowball game helps.

Mike you are standing pat way too much on crap badugis, you can definitely fold or break some J and T badugis, even lower.

Yeah I have worked that one out now :) Still up slightly over the two days. Sometimes you probably have to fold 8's too.

I twice folded a badugi predraw in the last hour or two. Both times I was out of position against the third raise, when I had put in the second raise. Both times I had K-Q or Q-J or similar badugis and was fairly sure I was up against a made hand with f*ck all chance to outdraw it. I think dardumbyu might have bluffed me off similar hands on the first draw though, even when I was in position. Hard to tell.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,506 ✭✭✭Shortstack

Yeah I have started folding them as well unless I have position or 3 cards under a 7 so I can break it.
